Image 5.2: A visual representation of the five search modes: All Metal, DISC, Notch, Memory, and PP (Pinpoint), each with an icon and a brief description of its function.

  1. All Metal Mode:

In this mode, the detector will alert you to the presence of any metal object it detects, regardless of its type. This is ideal for general searching when you want to find all metallic items.

  2. DISC Mode (Discrimination):

This mode allows you to eliminate unwanted metal types from your search. You can set the detector to ignore certain metals, focusing only on desired targets. This is useful for filtering out junk metal like iron or foil.

  3. Notch Mode:

Notch mode provides more precise discrimination. You can selectively accept or reject specific categories of metals (e.g., bottle caps, 5-cent coins, pull tabs, 1-cent coins) by adjusting the notch settings. This helps in targeting specific items while ignoring others.

  4. Memory Mode:

This mode remembers the last discrimination settings you used before turning off the detector. It will only detect the metal types you previously selected, allowing for consistent searching across sessions.

Image 5.2.3: An illustration for Memory Mode, depicting screws, signifying that the detector remembers the last set mode and only detects selected metals.

  5. Pinpoint (PP) Mode:

Once a target is detected, activate Pinpoint mode to precisely locate its position. The detector will emit bips that increase in frequency and intensity as you get closer to the target, helping you narrow down the exact spot for excavation.

5.3 LCD Display Functions

The LCD display provides crucial information during operation:

  • Target ID: Categorizes detected metals (e.g., Iron, Nickel, P-Tab, Zinc, Silver) with corresponding icons.
  • Target Digital Value: A numerical value (00-99) that further helps identify the type of metal.
  • Sensitivity/Depth: Indicates the current sensitivity level and estimated depth of the target.
  • Signal Strength: Visualizes the strength of the detected signal.
  • Battery Status: Shows the remaining battery life.
  • Volume Level: Displays the current audio volume.

5.4 Backlight Function

The LCD backlight can be turned on or off to suit ambient light conditions, ensuring readability day or night. The backlight automatically dims in standby mode to conserve battery power.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the detector with a damp cloth after each use. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the detector in a cool, dry place. Remove batteries if storing for extended periods to prevent leakage.
  • Waterproof Coil: While the search coil is IP68 waterproof, the control box is not. Do not submerge the control box.
  • Battery Care: Use high-quality 9V batteries. Replace them when the battery indicator shows low power.
