1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the STANLEY SXWT-FT591 Heavy-Duty Folding Hand Truck & Dolly. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, setup, and maintenance of your new hand truck. Please read this manual thoroughly before use and retain it for future reference.

This hand truck is designed for transporting various items, including boxes, supplies, appliances, and heavy packages, with a maximum load capacity of 400 lbs (181 kgs). Its folding design allows for compact storage when not in use.

2. Safety Information

WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in serious injury or property damage.

  • Always ensure the hand truck is fully deployed and locked into position before loading any items.
  • Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of 400 lbs (181 kgs).
  • Distribute the load evenly on the footplate. Secure unstable or oversized items with straps if necessary.
  • Always push the hand truck forward when moving heavy loads. Pulling can cause strain and loss of control.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and clear the path of any obstacles.
  • Use caution when moving the hand truck on inclines, declines, or uneven surfaces.
  • Keep hands and fingers clear of moving parts, especially during folding and unfolding operations. The molded handles include protective loops to guard fingers and knuckles during use.
  • Do not allow children to operate or play with the hand truck.
  • Wear appropriate safety footwear when operating the hand truck.

3. Setup

The STANLEY SXWT-FT591 hand truck comes pre-assembled and requires minimal setup for initial use.

Unfolding the Hand Truck for Use:

  1. Place the folded hand truck on a flat, stable surface.
  2. Grasp the molded plastic handles.
  3. Gently swing the handles outwards. As the handles swing out, the wheels and footplate will automatically deploy into their operational positions.
  4. Ensure all components are fully extended and locked before loading. The footplate should be flat on the ground, and the handles should be firmly in place.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your STANLEY hand truck.

  • Cleaning: Wipe down the steel frame and plastic components with a damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals that may damage the finish.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect all bolts, nuts, and moving parts to ensure they are tight and secure. Tighten any loose fasteners.
  • Wheels: The PP and TPR wheels are designed to be maintenance-free and never go flat. Check them for any signs of damage or excessive wear.
  • Storage: Store the hand truck in its folded position in a dry, protected area to prevent rust and damage.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your hand truck, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Hand Truck does not fold/unfold smoothly:
Check for any obstructions in the folding mechanism. Ensure no debris is caught in the joints or around the wheels. Apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to pivot points if necessary.
  • Wheels are stiff or not rolling freely:
Inspect the wheels for debris (e.g., string, hair) wrapped around the axle. Clear any obstructions. The wheels are designed to be maintenance-free, but extreme dirt can impede movement.
  • Load feels unstable:
Ensure the load is centered on the footplate and against the frame. For tall or irregularly shaped items, use straps to secure them to the hand truck. Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity.
