1. Introduction
The AIOMEST AI-1500 is a non-contact digital infrared thermometer designed for accurate temperature measurement across a wide range of industrial and scientific applications. This device utilizes dual laser pointers for precise targeting and offers adjustable emissivity for enhanced accuracy on various materials. It is suitable for use in environments such as cooking, kilns, HVAC systems, metal smelting, and automotive maintenance.
Important Note: This thermometer is not intended for measuring human or animal body temperature. Readings for biological subjects will be inaccurate.
2. Setup
2.1 Battery Installation
The AIOMEST AI-1500 requires one 9V battery (included). To install the battery:
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the handle of the device.
- Open the cover.
- Insert the 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
2.2 Power On/Off
To power on the device, press the measurement trigger. The device will automatically shut down after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life.
2.3 Unit Selection (℃/℉)
To switch between Celsius (℃) and Fahrenheit (℉), press the ℃/℉ button located on the control panel.
2.4 Emissivity Adjustment
Emissivity (ε) is a crucial setting for accurate temperature measurement. Different materials emit infrared energy differently. The AI-1500 allows adjustment from 0.1 to 1.0.
- Press the 'MODE' button until 'EMISSIVITY' is displayed.
- Use the 'UP' and 'DOWN' buttons to adjust the emissivity value according to the material being measured. Refer to common emissivity tables for guidance.
- Press 'MODE' again to save the setting and exit.

3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Taking a Measurement
To measure temperature:
- Point the thermometer at the target surface. The dual laser pointers indicate the approximate measurement area.
- Pull and hold the measurement trigger. The current temperature will be displayed instantly (response time: 0.25 seconds). The 'SCAN' indicator will appear on the display.
- Release the trigger to hold the reading. The 'HOLD' indicator will appear.

Figure 2: Illustration of the 30:1 Distance-to-Spot Ratio. This image demonstrates how the thermometer can measure a 10cm area from 300cm away, allowing for safe distance measurement from hot objects.
3.2 Distance-to-Spot Ratio (D:S)
The AI-1500 has a Distance-to-Spot ratio of 30:1. This means that at a distance of 30 units from the target, the measurement spot diameter will be 1 unit. For example, to measure a 10 cm area, you can stand 300 cm away. This feature allows for safe measurement of high-temperature or hard-to-reach objects.
3.3 Display Functions
The LCD display provides various information:
- Current Temperature: The primary reading.
- MAX/MIN/AVG/DIF: Press the 'MODE' button to cycle through maximum, minimum, average, and differential temperature readings during a scan.
- High/Low Temperature Alarm: The device can be set to alert you when temperatures exceed or fall below predefined thresholds.
- Backlight: Press the 'UP' button to activate the backlight for improved visibility in dim conditions. Press again to turn off.
- Flashlight: The device includes a built-in flashlight for illuminating the target area.

3.4 Measurement Tips for Water/Oil
When measuring the temperature of liquids like water or oil, avoid pointing the sensor lens directly into steam or smoke. Maintain a measuring angle of approximately 45° to 60° to ensure accurate readings and prevent condensation on the lens.

4. Maintenance
4.1 Cleaning
To ensure optimal performance and longevity, keep the thermometer clean. Wipe the device with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the device in water.
4.2 Battery Replacement
When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the 9V battery as described in the Setup section (2.1 Battery Installation).
4.3 Storage
Store the thermometer in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, remove the battery to prevent leakage.
5. Troubleshooting
- Inaccurate Readings:
- Check and adjust the emissivity setting for the material being measured.
- Ensure the distance-to-spot ratio is appropriate for the target size.
- Clean the sensor lens if it appears dirty.
- Verify the target is within the specified temperature range of the device.
- Display Not Working/No Power:
- Check battery installation and replace if necessary.
- Ensure the trigger is being pressed correctly.
- Laser Not Visible:
- The laser is a Class II laser with optical power <0.5mW. It may be less visible in bright light.
- Ensure the device is powered on.
