3. Setup and Installation

Proper installation ensures the longevity and functionality of your overlay. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Preparation: Ensure the surface of your existing control panel is clean, dry, and free from any residue, dirt, or old adhesive. Use a mild cleaner and allow the surface to dry completely.
  2. Alignment: Carefully align the new overlay with the buttons and display window of your control panel. Do not remove the adhesive backing yet.
  3. Application: Once aligned, peel off a small portion of the adhesive backing from one end. Press the exposed adhesive firmly onto the control panel. Slowly peel off the remaining backing while progressively pressing the overlay onto the panel, working from one end to the other. This technique helps prevent air bubbles.
  4. Secure: After the overlay is fully applied, press firmly over the entire surface, paying special attention to the edges and around the buttons, to ensure a strong bond.

4. Operating Instructions

The overlay provides the interface for controlling your spa's functions. Refer to your spa's main control system manual for detailed operational procedures. The buttons on this overlay typically perform the following functions:

  • TEMP / HEAT: Used to adjust the desired water temperature. Pressing this button usually cycles through temperature settings or allows adjustment with up/down arrows (if present on the underlying panel). The 'HEAT' indicator light illuminates when the heater is active.
  • JETS: Activates or cycles through the spa's jet pumps. Multiple presses may control different jet speeds or pumps.
  • LIGHT: Controls the spa's lighting system. Pressing this button typically turns the lights on/off or cycles through different light modes/colors.
  • AUX: Activates an auxiliary function, such as a blower, an additional pump, or another accessory connected to the spa's control system.

The display window shows important information such as water temperature, error codes, and operational status.

5. Maintenance

To maintain the appearance and functionality of your Balboa TP400 overlay:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the surface with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the overlay's finish and labels.
  • Protection: Protect the overlay from direct, prolonged sunlight exposure if possible, as this can cause fading over time.
  • Inspection: Periodically check for any signs of peeling or damage. If the overlay begins to peel, ensure the underlying surface is clean and re-press the affected area firmly.

6. Troubleshooting

The overlay itself is a passive interface and does not contain electronic components. Most issues related to button functionality or display problems originate from the underlying control panel or spa system. If you experience any of the following, consult your spa's main control system manual or contact a qualified technician:

  • Buttons not responding.
  • Incorrect temperature readings.
  • Display not working or showing error codes.
  • Functions (jets, light, aux) not activating.

Ensure the overlay is securely adhered and not obstructing any sensors or buttons.
