Jansite Hardwire Kit Mini USB for Dash Cam Mirror - Instruction Manual

Model: Hardwire Kit Mini USB

1. Product Overview

The Jansite Hardwire Kit Mini USB is designed to provide continuous power to your dash cam or mirror, enabling 24-hour parking monitoring and time-lapse video recording. It features low voltage protection to prevent vehicle battery drain and ensures automatic switching between normal and parking modes.

This kit converts 12V-24V vehicle power to 5V 2.5A, suitable for most dash cams and mirror devices with a Mini USB port.

2. Package Contents

  • Jansite Hardwire Kit (Mini USB)
  • Fuse Taps (various types may be included)

Please inspect all components upon unboxing. If any parts are missing or damaged, contact customer support.

4. Installation (Setup)

Proper installation is crucial for the hardwire kit's functionality and to prevent vehicle battery drain. If you are unsure about any steps, consult a professional auto electrician.

4.1 Identify Fuse Box Location

Locate your vehicle's fuse box. Common locations include under the dashboard, in the glove compartment, or in the engine bay. Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for the exact location.

4.2 Wiring Connections

The Jansite Hardwire Kit has three wires: Yellow (BAT+), Red (ACC), and Black (GND).

  • Yellow Wire (BAT+): Connect to a constant power fuse in your vehicle's fuse box. This fuse should provide power even when the ignition is off. This is essential for 24-hour parking monitoring.
  • Red Wire (ACC): Connect to a switched power (ACC) fuse in your vehicle's fuse box. This fuse should only provide power when the ignition is on. This allows the dash cam to switch modes automatically.
  • Black Wire (GND): Connect to a metal bolt or screw on the vehicle's chassis for a secure ground connection. Ensure the connection point is clean and free of paint or rust.

4.3 Using Fuse Taps

Use the provided fuse taps to connect the Yellow (BAT+) and Red (ACC) wires to the appropriate fuses in your vehicle's fuse box. Insert the original fuse into the lower slot of the fuse tap, and a new fuse (of the same rating) for the hardwire kit into the upper slot.

4.4 Connect to Dash Cam/Mirror

Once the hardwire kit is connected to the vehicle's power, plug the Mini USB end of the hardwire kit into your dash cam or mirror device.

5. Operation

5.1 Automatic Mode Switching

The hardwire kit enables your dash cam to automatically switch between normal recording mode and parking monitoring mode:

  • When the vehicle engine is on, the dash cam will operate in normal recording mode.
  • When the vehicle engine is off, the dash cam will automatically switch to parking monitoring mode.

5.2 24-Hour Parking Monitoring with Time-Lapse

The hardwire kit provides continuous power to your dash cam for 24-hour parking monitoring. It supports time-lapse video recording, which compresses long periods of recording into shorter video files. For example, 30 minutes of recording can be saved as 1 minute of time-lapse video (at 1 frame per second).

This feature allows for extended surveillance coverage without consuming excessive storage space on your memory card.

5.3 Low Voltage Protection

The hardwire kit includes a built-in low voltage protection feature to safeguard your vehicle's battery. If the vehicle battery voltage drops below a preset threshold, the hardwire kit will automatically cut off power to the dash cam. This ensures that there is sufficient power remaining to start your vehicle.

  • For 12V vehicle batteries, power will cut off at approximately 11.3V ± 0.2V.
  • For 24V vehicle batteries, power will cut off at approximately 23.3V ± 0.2V.

6. Maintenance

The Jansite Hardwire Kit is designed for reliable operation with minimal maintenance. However, periodic checks can help ensure optimal performance:

  • Check Connections: Periodically inspect all wiring connections (fuse box, ground, and Mini USB) to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Cable Routing: Ensure that the cables are neatly routed and not pinched or exposed to excessive heat or sharp edges, which could cause damage.
  • Fuse Integrity: If your dash cam stops receiving power, check the fuses in the fuse taps. Replace any blown fuses with new ones of the same rating.

7. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution

Dash cam does not power on.

  • Loose connection.
  • Blown fuse.
  • Incorrect wiring (BAT+/ACC/GND).
  • Vehicle battery voltage too low (if in parking mode).
  • Check all connections for tightness.
  • Inspect fuses in the fuse taps and replace if blown.
  • Verify that BAT+ is connected to constant power, ACC to switched power, and GND to a good chassis ground.
  • Start the vehicle to charge the battery. If the issue persists, check vehicle battery health.

Dash cam does not switch to parking mode.

  • Incorrect ACC wire connection.
  • Dash cam settings not configured for parking mode.
  • Ensure the Red (ACC) wire is connected to a fuse that only receives power when the ignition is on.
  • Refer to your dash cam's manual to enable parking mode functionality.

Vehicle battery drains quickly.

  • Low voltage protection not functioning.
  • Excessive power draw from dash cam.
  • Weak vehicle battery.
  • Ensure the hardwire kit is correctly installed and functioning.
  • Check dash cam settings for parking mode sensitivity or recording duration.
  • Have your vehicle battery tested by a professional.
