5. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before installing or operating this transformer. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or other hazards.

  • Electrical Safety: Always disconnect power at the source before installing or servicing the transformer or connected lighting.
  • Outdoor Use: This transformer is designed for outdoor use. Ensure all connections are waterproof and protected from moisture.
  • Grounding: Ensure the transformer is properly grounded according to local electrical codes.
  • Load Capacity: Do not exceed 80% of the transformer's rated capacity (60W). For this 60W transformer, the total wattage of connected lights should not exceed 48W. Overloading can cause damage and fire hazards.
  • LED Lights Only: This transformer is designed exclusively for LED landscape lighting. Do not connect it to incandescent or tungsten lights.
  • Cable Protection: Protect low-voltage cables by routing them in close proximity to the light fixture or building structure, or by burying them a maximum of 6 inches (15.2 cm).
  • Avoid Submersion: Do not submerge the transformer or any connections in water.
  • Children and Pets: Keep the transformer and wiring out of reach of children and pets.

6. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of your low voltage transformer and landscape lighting system.

  1. Prepare the Cable: Remove approximately 1/2 inch (12.7mm) of insulation from both ends of your landscape lighting cables. Twist the exposed wire strands together.
  2. Connect to Transformer: Connect the prepared cables to the low-voltage output terminals on the transformer. Ensure a secure connection.
  3. Place Fixtures: Position your landscape light fixtures in the desired locations. Route the low-voltage cable from the transformer to each fixture, ensuring the total wattage does not exceed 48W.
  4. Mount the Transformer: Mount the transformer on an outdoor wall or suitable vertical surface. It is recommended to mount the transformer 12 to 48 inches (0.3 to 1.2 meters) above the ground.

7. Operating Instructions

The Briidea HPS-01 transformer offers flexible control options for your landscape lighting.

7.1. Photocell Sensor Operation

The built-in photocell sensor automatically detects ambient light levels to turn your lights on at dusk and off at dawn. The transformer provides four environmental light sensitivity options, which can be adjusted via the 'Setting' button (refer to the product diagram for button location).

7.2. Countdown Timer Operation

To set the countdown timer, press the 'Select' button (refer to the product diagram for button location) to cycle through the available options: 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours, or 8 hours. The lights will turn on at dusk and remain on for the selected duration before turning off.

Image 7.2: A visual representation of the countdown timer feature, indicating the 2, 4, 6, and 8-hour settings.

7.3. Memory Function

The transformer is equipped with a memory function. In the event of a power outage or if the unit is unplugged, it will retain your last selected settings (photocell sensitivity and timer duration) once power is restored.

8. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your transformer.

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the exterior of the transformer with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Inspect Connections: Annually inspect all wiring connections for tightness and signs of corrosion. Ensure the photocell sensor is clear of obstructions (e.g., leaves, dirt) for proper operation.
  • Cable Integrity: Check low-voltage cables for any damage, cuts, or exposed wires. Repair or replace damaged cables immediately.
  • Photocell Sensor: Ensure the photocell sensor is not covered by anything that would block ambient light, as this will prevent it from functioning correctly.

9. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your transformer, refer to the following troubleshooting guide:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Lights do not turn on.No power to transformer.
Overload protection activated.
Photocell sensor blocked.
Faulty wiring/connections.
Check power outlet and circuit breaker.
Reduce total wattage of connected lights. Unplug and replug transformer.
Clear any obstructions from the photocell sensor.
Inspect all wiring for secure connections and damage.
Lights stay on constantly.Photocell sensor not detecting light.
Timer set incorrectly.
Ensure photocell sensor is not covered or in a dark location during the day. Adjust sensitivity.
Verify timer setting. If set to 'On' mode, it will stay on.
Lights turn on/off at incorrect times.Photocell sensor sensitivity.
External light interference.
Adjust the photocell sensor's sensitivity setting.
Relocate the transformer if it's exposed to artificial light sources at night (e.g., streetlights).
Some lights are not working.Faulty bulb/fixture.
Loose connection.
Damaged cable.
Test individual lights. Replace faulty bulbs or fixtures.
Check connections at the transformer and at the light fixture.
Inspect the cable for damage and repair/replace as needed.
