3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

  1. Open the battery compartment cover located on the back of the device.
  2. Insert 3 x 1.5V AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-). Three high-quality AA batteries are included.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover.
  4. A 3V CR 2032 button cell battery is also included, typically pre-installed, for memory backup.

Note: When operating solely on batteries, the display remains invisible and activates briefly via sound or touch to conserve power.

3.2 Power Adapter Connection

For continuous display illumination, connect the supplied power adapter to the designated port on the alarm clock and plug it into a power outlet. When using the adapter, the digits will remain illuminated permanently and can be adjusted for brightness.

3.3 Initial Setup and DCF 77 Signal Reception

After power-up (either with batteries or power adapter), the alarm clock will automatically attempt to receive the DCF 77 radio signal. This signal ensures the time is always accurate to the second and automatically adjusts for daylight saving time changes.

  • Place the device in an area with good radio reception, away from electronic interference.
  • The initial reception process may take several minutes.
  • If reception is unsuccessful, the time can be set manually (refer to Section 4.4). The clock will continue to attempt signal reception periodically.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Display Modes

The clock can display time, date, or indoor temperature. Use the designated button (refer to device markings) to cycle through these display modes. An automatic display change function can also be activated, which cycles through time, date, and temperature at regular intervals.

4.2 Brightness Adjustment

When powered by the adapter, the display brightness can be adjusted to three levels. Use the appropriate button (e.g., 'UP' or 'DOWN' button) to select your preferred brightness. This setting is not applicable when operating solely on batteries.

4.3 Alarm Function

To set the alarm:

  1. Press the 'ALARM' button to enter alarm setting mode.
  2. Use the 'UP' and 'DOWN' buttons to adjust the hour and minute.
  3. Press 'ALARM' again to confirm and activate the alarm. An alarm icon will appear on the display.

To deactivate the alarm, press the 'ALARM' button again until the alarm icon disappears. When the alarm sounds, press any button to activate the snooze function, or press the 'ALARM' button to turn it off completely.

4.4 Manual Time Setting

If the DCF 77 signal is not received or if you prefer to set the time manually:

  1. Press and hold the 'SET' or 'MODE' button (refer to device markings) to enter manual time setting mode.
  2. Use the 'UP' and 'DOWN' buttons to adjust the hour, minute, year, month, and day.
  3. Press 'SET' or 'MODE' to confirm each setting and move to the next.
  4. Exit setting mode by pressing 'SET' or 'MODE' after the last setting, or wait for automatic exit.

4.5 Automatic Dimming Function

The clock features an automatic dimming function. Between 7:00 PM (19:00) and 6:59 AM (06:59), the display illumination will automatically switch to the lowest brightness level. This ensures that your sleep is not disturbed while the time remains readable.

4.6 Display Activation (Battery Mode)

When operating on batteries, the display is normally off to conserve power. It can be activated briefly by making a sound (e.g., clapping) or by gently tapping the device. The display will illuminate for a few seconds before turning off again.

5. Maintenance

To maintain your TFA Dostmann Clocco alarm clock:

  • Clean the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or high humidity.
