4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Mounting the Unit

The AL-02R can be mounted on the dashboard or other suitable surfaces using the provided mount base and double-sided tape. Ensure the mounting location provides a clear line of sight for laser detection and does not obstruct your view while driving.

  • Clean the mounting surface thoroughly to ensure proper adhesion of the double-sided tape.
  • Attach the appropriate double-sided tape to the mount base.
  • Secure the mount base to your desired location.
  • Attach the AL-02R unit to the mount base using the ball joint, adjusting the angle for optimal detection.

4.2 Power Connection

The AL-02R can be powered in two ways:

  • Standalone Use: Connect the dedicated Cigarette Lighter DC Cord (4.5m) to the AL-02R unit and plug it into your vehicle's cigarette lighter socket.
  • Connection to a Compatible Safety Radar: Use the Safety Radar Connection Cord (3.5m) to link the AL-02R to a compatible CELLSTAR safety radar system. This allows the safety radar to process the laser detection data.

Note: For rear installation, an optional accessory, the RO-123, is required. The AL-02R cannot be used simultaneously with drive recorder intercommunication functions.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On/Off

Once connected to a power source, the AL-02R will typically power on automatically with your vehicle's ignition. To manually power off, disconnect the power cable or use the power button if available on your connected safety radar system.

5.2 Laser Detection and Alerts

When a laser-type speed camera signal is detected, the AL-02R will provide alerts through:

  • LED Indicator: A visual alert will be displayed on the unit's LED.
  • Audio Warning: An audible alert will sound to notify the driver.

The Fredelix Lens technology helps to filter out non-threat laser signals, reducing unnecessary warnings.

5.3 Reception Levels

The AL-02R supports two reception levels: Strong and Weak. These levels determine the sensitivity of the laser detection. Refer to your connected safety radar's manual or the AL-02R's specific settings (if standalone) for information on how to adjust these levels, if applicable.
