5. Installation
Follow these steps to install the Hilitand CPU Air Cooler:
- Prepare Your System: Power off your computer and disconnect all cables. Open the computer case to access the motherboard.
- Remove Existing Cooler (if applicable): Carefully remove any existing CPU cooler. Clean the CPU surface of any old thermal paste using isopropyl alcohol.
- Install the Back Panel: Position the provided back panel on the rear side of your motherboard, aligning it with the CPU socket mounting holes.
- Apply Thermal Paste: Apply a small amount of thermal paste (not included) to the center of your CPU's integrated heat spreader (IHS).
- Mount the CPU Cooler: Place the CPU cooler onto the CPU, aligning the mounting screws with the holes on the back panel. Secure the cooler by tightening the screws in a diagonal pattern until snug. Do not overtighten.
- Connect the Fan Cable: Connect the 4-pin PWM fan cable from the cooler to the CPU_FAN header on your motherboard.
- Close Case and Power On: Close your computer case, reconnect all cables, and power on your system. Verify that the fan is spinning.

6. Operation
Once installed, the Hilitand CPU Air Cooler operates automatically. The PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) function allows your motherboard to control the fan speed based on the CPU temperature, providing efficient cooling when needed and quieter operation during lighter loads. Ensure your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings are configured to manage the CPU fan appropriately.
7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your CPU cooler:
- Dust Removal: Periodically clean the fan blades and heat sink fins to remove accumulated dust. Use compressed air or a soft brush. Ensure the fan is not spinning during cleaning.
- Thermal Paste: Consider reapplying thermal paste every 2-3 years, or if you remove the cooler for any reason, to maintain efficient heat transfer.
- Fan Inspection: Check the fan periodically for any unusual noises or reduced rotation, which may indicate wear or obstruction.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your CPU cooler, consider the following:
- Fan Not Spinning: Ensure the 4-pin fan cable is securely connected to the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard. Check BIOS/UEFI settings to confirm fan control is enabled.
- High CPU Temperatures: Verify that the cooler is properly seated on the CPU and that thermal paste was applied correctly. Ensure there is adequate airflow within your computer case. Clean any dust from the heat sink and fan.
- Unusual Fan Noise: Check for any cables or obstructions hitting the fan blades. If the noise persists, the fan bearing may be worn.
