Introduction
This user manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Scheppach CSP5300 Gasoline Chainsaw. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the chainsaw to ensure your safety and the longevity of the product.
The Scheppach CSP5300 is a powerful and robust gasoline chainsaw designed for various cutting tasks, featuring:
- Powerful 53 cm³ / 2-stroke gasoline engine
- 20" ProCut quality bar and chain for best cutting results
- High-performance air filter for longer engine life
- Anti-vibration system dampens shocks and reduces user fatigue
- Large metal claw stop for safe working
- Automatic chain lubrication
- System brake / chain brake stops the chain within milliseconds in case of kickback
Safety Instructions
WARNING: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including head protection, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and safety footwear when operating the chainsaw. Read and understand all safety warnings and instructions before use.
- Kickback Prevention: Be aware of kickback. The chainsaw is equipped with a system brake/chain brake that stops the chain within milliseconds in case of kickback. Always maintain a firm grip with both hands.
- Anti-Vibration System: The integrated anti-vibration system helps reduce fatigue during prolonged use. However, take regular breaks to prevent vibration-related injuries.
- Fuel Handling: Handle gasoline with extreme care. It is highly flammable. Mix fuel and oil in a well-ventilated area away from ignition sources.
- Work Area: Ensure your work area is clear of obstacles and bystanders. Do not operate the chainsaw in wet conditions or in the presence of flammable liquids or gases.
- Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance as described in this manual. Never operate a damaged chainsaw.

Assembly and Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Check for any damage or missing parts.
- Bar and Chain Installation:
- Place the guide bar onto the studs.
- Fit the saw chain around the sprocket and into the guide bar groove. Ensure the cutting edges are facing the correct direction.
- Install the chain cover and tighten the nuts finger-tight.
- Chain Tensioning: Adjust the chain tension using the tensioning screw. The chain should be snug against the bar but still able to be pulled freely by hand. Do not overtighten.
- Fuel and Oil Mixture:
- The CSP5300 uses a 2-stroke gasoline engine. Mix unleaded gasoline with high-quality 2-stroke engine oil at the ratio specified in the engine manual (typically 1:25 or 1:50, refer to specific instructions).
- Fill the fuel tank with the prepared mixture.
- Fill the chain oil reservoir with appropriate chain lubricant. The automatic lubrication system requires a constant supply of oil.
Operating Instructions
- Starting the Chainsaw:
- Place the chainsaw on a firm, flat surface.
- Engage the chain brake.
- Set the choke (if cold start) and primer bulb (if equipped).
- Pull the starter cord firmly until the engine fires.
- Disengage the choke and allow the engine to warm up briefly before use.
- Cutting Techniques:
- Always maintain a balanced stance and firm grip on both handles.
- Use the metal claw stop to pivot the chainsaw into the wood for controlled cuts.
- Be aware of pinching and kickback risks. Plan your cuts carefully.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your chainsaw.
- Chain Lubrication: The chainsaw features automatic chain lubrication. Regularly check the chain oil level and refill as needed.
- Chain Sharpening: A sharp chain is crucial for safe and efficient cutting. Sharpen the chain regularly or replace it when dull.
- Air Filter: Clean the high-performance air filter frequently, especially when working in dusty conditions, to maintain engine performance.
- Spark Plug: Inspect and clean the spark plug periodically. Replace if worn or fouled.
- General Cleaning: Keep the chainsaw clean from sawdust, debris, and resin.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine won't start | No fuel, incorrect fuel mixture, fouled spark plug, clogged air filter, engaged chain brake. | Check fuel level and mixture, clean/replace spark plug, clean air filter, disengage chain brake. |
| Chain not moving | Chain brake engaged, chain too tight, damaged chain/bar. | Disengage chain brake, adjust chain tension, inspect/replace chain/bar. |
| Oil leakage | Overfilled oil reservoir, loose cap, damaged oil line/seal. | Ensure correct oil level, tighten cap, inspect for damage and repair if necessary. |
| Poor cutting performance | Dull chain, incorrect chain tension, improper cutting technique. | Sharpen or replace chain, adjust chain tension, review operating instructions. |
If problems persist, please contact Scheppach customer support or a qualified service technician.
