2. Installation and Setup
Proper installation is crucial for the correct function of the carburetor. Always ensure the generator is turned off and cooled down before beginning any installation or maintenance procedures. Disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent accidental starting.
2.1 Safety Precautions:
- Ensure the generator is off and the engine is cool.
- Disconnect the spark plug wire.
- Work in a well-ventilated area.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves, eye protection).
- Have a fire extinguisher readily available.
2.2 Installation Steps:
- Remove Old Carburetor:
- Drain the fuel tank.
- Disconnect the fuel line from the old carburetor.
- Remove the air filter housing and air filter.
- Disconnect any linkages or wires attached to the carburetor (e.g., choke, throttle).
- Unbolt and carefully remove the old carburetor and its gaskets.
- Prepare for New Carburetor:
- Clean the mounting surface on the engine block to ensure a proper seal.
- Inspect the intake manifold for any damage or debris.
- Install New Carburetor:
- Place new gaskets and the insulator between the engine and the new carburetor. Ensure correct orientation.
- Mount the new Pro Chaser C46540 Carburetor, securing it with the appropriate bolts. Do not overtighten.
- Reconnect all linkages and wires (choke, throttle, safety switch, etc.).
- Install the new fuel hose and secure it with clamps. Install the new fuel filter in the fuel line, ensuring the flow direction is correct.
- Replace the old spark plug with the new one provided.
- Install the new air filter and reattach the air filter housing.
- Final Checks:
- Double-check all connections for tightness and proper routing.
- Ensure no fuel leaks are present.
- Reconnect the spark plug wire.

3. Operating Instructions
After successful installation, follow your generator's manufacturer guidelines for starting and operating the engine. The carburetor's primary function is to mix air and fuel in the correct ratio for combustion.
3.1 Initial Start-up:
- Fill the fuel tank with fresh, clean gasoline.
- Open the fuel valve.
- Set the choke lever to the 'CHOKE' position for cold starts.
- Follow your generator's specific starting procedure (e.g., pull cord, electric start).
- Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke lever to the 'RUN' position as the engine warms up.
3.2 Normal Operation:
- Ensure the choke is fully open (RUN position) during normal operation.
- Monitor engine performance. A properly functioning carburetor will provide smooth engine operation without excessive smoke or stalling.
4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance of the carburetor and associated components ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your generator.
4.1 Fuel System Maintenance:
- Fuel Filter: Inspect and replace the fuel filter annually or more frequently if fuel quality is poor. A clogged fuel filter can restrict fuel flow to the carburetor.
- Fuel Quality: Always use fresh, clean, unleaded gasoline. Stale fuel can cause deposits and clog carburetor jets. Consider using a fuel stabilizer if storing the generator for extended periods.
- Fuel Bowl: If the generator is stored for a long time, drain the carburetor's fuel bowl to prevent gumming.
4.2 Air Filter Maintenance:
- Air Filter: Regularly inspect the air filter. Clean or replace it as needed, especially when operating in dusty conditions. A dirty air filter restricts airflow, leading to a rich fuel mixture and reduced engine performance.
4.3 Spark Plug Maintenance:
- Spark Plug: Inspect the spark plug annually. Clean or replace it if it is fouled or worn. Ensure the gap is set correctly according to your generator's specifications.

5. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues that may arise with carburetor operation. For complex problems, consult a qualified technician.
5.1 Engine Not Starting:
- No Fuel: Check fuel tank level and ensure the fuel valve is open. Verify the fuel filter is not clogged.
- Stale Fuel: Drain old fuel and refill with fresh gasoline.
- Clogged Jets: If the carburetor has been stored with fuel, jets may be clogged. Cleaning or replacement may be necessary.
- Spark Plug: Check the spark plug for proper gap, fouling, or damage. Replace if necessary.
- Choke Position: Ensure the choke is set correctly for starting (closed for cold, open for warm).
5.2 Engine Runs Poorly/Stalls:
- Dirty Air Filter: Inspect and clean/replace the air filter.
- Fuel Delivery Issues: Check fuel filter, fuel lines, and ensure no obstructions.
- Carburetor Adjustment: If the engine runs rough, the carburetor may require minor adjustments. Refer to your generator's service manual for specific adjustment procedures.
- Low Oil Alert: The included safety switch (low oil alert) will prevent the engine from starting or running if the oil level is too low. Check and fill engine oil to the recommended level.
5.3 Fuel Leaks:
- Loose Connections: Check all fuel line connections and clamps for tightness.
- Damaged Gaskets: Inspect carburetor gaskets for damage or improper seating. Replace if necessary.
- Float Issues: A sticking or damaged float in the carburetor bowl can cause fuel overflow. This typically requires carburetor disassembly and inspection.
