4. Safety Instructions

WARNING: Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations, and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

4.1. Work Area Safety

  • Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
  • Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

4.2. Electrical Safety

  • Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way.
  • Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
  • Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling, or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts.

4.3. Personal Safety

  • Always wear eye protection. Use safety glasses, goggles, or a face shield.
  • Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts.
  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool.

4.4. Power Tool Use and Care

  • Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application.
  • Disconnect the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
  • Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool.

4.5. Battery Tool Use and Care

  • Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer.
  • Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs.
  • When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects that can make a connection from one terminal to another.

5. Setup

5.1. Charging the Battery

  1. Connect the charger to a standard power outlet.
  2. Insert the P20S battery into the charger. Ensure it clicks into place.
  3. The charger's indicator light will show the charging status. Refer to the charger's specific manual for light indications (e.g., red for charging, green for fully charged).
  4. Once fully charged, remove the battery from the charger.

Note: The P20S batteries and chargers are compatible across all TOTALTOOLS P20S range tools.

5.2. Installing the Battery

  1. Ensure the impact driver is switched off.
  2. Align the battery with the battery slot on the base of the tool handle.
  3. Slide the battery into the slot until it clicks securely into place.
  4. To remove, press the battery release button (usually located on the sides of the battery) and slide the battery out.

5.3. Installing Driver Bits

  1. Ensure the tool is switched off and the battery is removed for safety.
  2. Pull the chuck collar forward to open the hex chuck.
  3. Insert the 1/4" hex shank driver bit fully into the chuck.
  4. Release the chuck collar to lock the bit in place. Tug gently on the bit to ensure it is securely fastened.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Powering On/Off and Speed Control

  • To turn the tool ON, press the trigger switch.
  • To turn the tool OFF, release the trigger switch.
  • The tool features variable speed control. The further you press the trigger, the faster the tool will operate.

6.2. Forward/Reverse Rotation

  • The forward/reverse selector switch is located above the trigger.
  • Push the switch to the left for forward (clockwise) rotation, used for tightening screws.
  • Push the switch to the right for reverse (counter-clockwise) rotation, used for loosening screws.
  • Ensure the switch is in the center position when not in use to prevent accidental starting.

6.3. Torque Adjustment

The impact driver provides a maximum torque of 170 Nm. The power of rotation can be adjusted by varying the pressure on the trigger switch. For delicate tasks, apply less pressure; for heavy-duty applications, apply full pressure.

6.4. Integrated LED Light

The tool is equipped with an integrated LED light that illuminates the work area when the trigger is pressed, improving visibility in dimly lit conditions.

6.5. Battery Indicator

The impact driver features a battery indicator, typically located near the base of the handle, which shows the remaining battery charge. Monitor this indicator to know when to recharge the battery.

7. Maintenance

7.1. Cleaning

  • Always disconnect the battery before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe down the tool's exterior. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Keep the ventilation openings clear of dust and debris to prevent overheating. Use compressed air if necessary.

7.2. Battery Care and Storage

  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Do not store batteries in a discharged state for extended periods. Charge them periodically if not in use.
  • Avoid dropping or damaging batteries.

7.3. General Storage

  • Store the impact driver and its accessories in the provided carrying bag or a suitable storage case.
  • Keep the tool out of reach of children and unauthorized users.

8. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Tool does not start Battery not charged or improperly installed. Charge the battery. Ensure battery is fully inserted and clicks into place.
Reduced power/torque Low battery charge. Overheating. Recharge the battery. Allow the tool to cool down.
Bit not holding securely Chuck collar not fully released. Incorrect bit type. Ensure chuck collar is fully released after inserting bit. Use only 1/4" hex shank bits.
Tool stops during operation Overload protection activated. Low battery. Reduce load. Recharge battery.
