4. Setup

4.1. Assembly

  1. Attach the Search Coil: Securely fasten the search coil to the lower stem using the provided bolt and knob.
  2. Connect Stems: Connect the lower stem to the middle stem, and then the middle stem to the upper stem (control box assembly). Ensure all connections are firm.
  3. Wrap Cable: Carefully wrap the search coil cable around the stem, ensuring it is not too tight or loose, and plug the connector into the control box.
  4. Adjust Arm Support: Position the arm support for comfortable use.

4.2. Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the control box.
  2. Open the compartment cover.
  3. Insert two 9V batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Note: If the unit will not be used for a week or more, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and potential damage to electronic components.

4.3. Adjusting Length

The detector's stem is adjustable to suit different user heights, ranging from 42.1 inches to 51.2 inches.

  1. Loosen the locking collar on the adjustable stem.
  2. Extend or retract the stem to your desired comfortable length.
  3. Tighten the locking collar to secure the stem in place.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Power On/Off

Press the POWER button to turn the detector on or off.

5.2. Detection Modes

The JOBYNA Metal Detector features two primary detection modes: All Metal and DISC (Discrimination).

  • All Metal Mode: Detects all types of metal objects. This mode offers the greatest depth sensitivity and is ideal for general searching when you want to find everything.
  • DISC Mode (Discrimination): Allows the user to eliminate certain types of metals from detection, such as iron or other unwanted items. Use the MODE button to switch between modes and the SET button to adjust discrimination levels.

5.3. Sensitivity Adjustment

Adjusting sensitivity controls the detector's ability to find small or deep objects. Higher sensitivity increases detection depth but can also increase false signals in mineralized soil or areas with electromagnetic interference. Use the SET button to adjust sensitivity.

5.4. Pinpoint Function

The Pinpoint function helps to precisely locate the target after it has been detected. Press and hold the Pinpoint button. Move the search coil slowly over the detected area. The audio tone will intensify as you get closer to the target, allowing for accurate pinpointing before digging.

5.5. Audio Feedback

The detector provides three distinct audio tones to help identify metal categories. The volume can be adjusted using the controls on the LCD panel.

5.6. Using the Waterproof Search Coil

The 10-inch search coil is IP68 waterproof, allowing for detection in shallow water, such as at the seashore or in rivers. Important: The control box is NOT waterproof and must not be submerged.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After each use, especially in sandy or wet conditions, wipe down the search coil and stem with a damp cloth. Ensure the control box remains dry.
  • Storage: Store the metal detector in a cool, dry place. If storing for an extended period, remove the batteries.
  • Battery Care: Always use fresh, high-quality 9V batteries. Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the LCD.
  • Cable Inspection: Periodically check the search coil cable for any signs of wear or damage.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Detector does not power on.Dead or incorrectly installed batteries.Check battery polarity; replace with fresh 9V batteries.
Constant false signals or erratic behavior.
  • High sensitivity setting.
  • Electromagnetic interference (EMI) from power lines, other electronics.
  • Highly mineralized soil.
  • Metal objects nearby (e.g., digging tools, building floor).
  • Reduce sensitivity.
  • Move away from sources of EMI.
  • Switch to DISC mode or reduce sensitivity.
  • Ensure no metal objects are near the search coil during operation. Avoid using indoors or on floors with embedded metal.
No detection or weak signals.
  • Low sensitivity setting.
  • Incorrect mode (e.g., DISC mode rejecting target).
  • Search coil not parallel to the ground.
  • Increase sensitivity.
  • Switch to All Metal mode or adjust DISC settings.
  • Ensure the search coil is swept parallel to the ground, about 1-2 inches above it.
