4. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps for proper installation of your DaToo Aquarium Hang-On Filter:

  1. Connect Plastic Water Pipe: Assemble the intake tube sections. Ensure they are securely connected to form a single pipe.
  2. Step 1: Connecting the plastic water pipe

Figure 4.1: Illustration of connecting the plastic water pipe sections together.

  3. Install the Pipe to the Filter: Attach the assembled intake pipe to the bottom of the filter unit's intake port.
  4. Step 2: Installing the pipe to the filter

Figure 4.2: Shows the intake pipe being attached to the main filter body.

  5. Position the Filter: Hang the filter unit on the back or side of your aquarium. Ensure it is level and stable.
  6. Adjust Distance (Reduce Noise/Avoid Shake): Turn the knob at the bottom of the filter to adjust the distance between the filter and your fish tank. This helps to reduce noise and prevent shaking.
  7. Step 3: Adjusting the distance knob for stability

Figure 4.3: Close-up of the adjustable knob at the base of the filter, used to stabilize it against the aquarium glass.

  8. Prime the Filter (Very Important): Before turning on the power, you must add water to the filter chamber. Pour water directly into the filter until it is full. The filter will not work if not primed.
  9. Step 4: Priming the filter with water

  10. Connect to Power: Once primed, plug the filter into a suitable power outlet.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Water Flow Adjustment

The DaToo Hang-On Filter features an adjustable water flow rate. This is particularly useful for tanks with delicate fish species like Bettas, which prefer gentler currents.

  • To adjust the flow, simply turn the adjustment knob located on the filter's outflow pipe.
  • Turn clockwise to decrease flow, and counter-clockwise to increase flow.

5.2 Waterfall Design for Oxygenation

The unique waterfall flow design of this filter helps to create beneficial oxygenation, increasing the oxygen content in your aquarium water. This contributes to healthier and more energetic aquatic life.

5.3 Quiet Operation

The 2.5W water pump operates at a whisper-quiet level (≤35db), ensuring minimal disturbance to your home environment and your fish.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your filter. Always unplug the filter before performing any maintenance.

6.1 Filter Cartridge Replacement

The filter cartridge contains activated carbon, which effectively removes odors, discoloration, and impurities. It should be replaced every 2-4 weeks, depending on tank size and bioload.

  1. Unplug the filter from the power outlet.
  2. Carefully remove the filter lid.
  3. Remove the old filter cartridge and dispose of it properly.
  4. Rinse the new filter cartridge lightly under clean water before inserting it into the filter chamber.
  5. Replace the filter lid securely.
  6. Prime the filter with water before plugging it back in.

6.2 Intake Bio-foam Cleaning

The extra bio-foam at the inlet enhances filtration and prevents small fish from being sucked in. Clean this foam periodically to ensure proper water intake.

  • Gently remove the bio-foam from the intake tube.
  • Rinse the foam in old aquarium water (from a water change) to preserve beneficial bacteria, or in dechlorinated tap water if necessary. Do not use untreated tap water as chlorine can kill beneficial bacteria.
  • Reattach the clean bio-foam to the intake tube.

6.3 Impeller Cleaning

If the filter's flow rate decreases significantly or it becomes noisy, the impeller may need cleaning.

  1. Unplug the filter and remove it from the aquarium.
  2. Disassemble the filter to access the impeller chamber (usually located at the bottom of the main unit).
  3. Carefully remove the impeller and clean it, as well as the impeller chamber, with a small brush to remove any debris or buildup.
  4. Reassemble all parts securely and prime the filter before restarting.

7. Troubleshooting
