Osprey Global Tactical Series 10-40x50 MilDot Riflescope Instruction Manual

Model: TA10-40x50MDG

Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your Osprey Global Tactical Series 10-40x50 MilDot Riflescope. Please read this manual thoroughly before using your riflescope to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Product Overview

The Osprey Global Tactical Series 10-40x50 MilDot Riflescope is designed for precision aiming, featuring a variable 10x to 40x magnification, a 50mm objective lens, and an illuminated Mil-Dot glass reticle with red, green, and blue color options. It is constructed from durable aluminum and designed for reliable performance.

Setup

1. Mounting the Riflescope

Ensure your rifle is unloaded and pointed in a safe direction. Use appropriate Weaver-style rings (not included) to mount the riflescope securely to your firearm's rail. Position the scope to achieve proper eye relief before tightening the rings. Do not overtighten mounting screws, as this can damage the scope tube.

2. Adjusting Eye Relief

With the scope mounted, shoulder your rifle in a comfortable shooting position. Adjust the scope's position forward or backward in the rings until you achieve a full, clear field of view without any dark crescent shapes (known as 'scope shadow') around the edges. Once proper eye relief is established, tighten the mounting rings evenly.

3. Focusing the Reticle (Diopter Adjustment)

  1. Point the riflescope at a plain, bright background (e.g., a clear sky or a blank wall).
  2. Look through the scope and quickly glance at the reticle.
  3. Rotate the diopter adjustment ring, located on the eyepiece, until the reticle appears sharp and clear to your eye. Avoid staring at the reticle for too long during this process, as your eye may compensate for blurriness.

4. Parallax Adjustment

The parallax adjustment knob is typically located on the left side of the scope's main tube. This adjustment eliminates parallax error, which occurs when the reticle appears to shift relative to the target as your eye moves. Rotate the parallax knob until the image is clear and the reticle does not appear to move when you slightly shift your head.

5. Reticle Illumination

The illumination control knob is usually integrated with the parallax knob or located on top of the eyepiece. Rotate this knob to turn on the reticle illumination and select between red, green, or blue colors, as well as adjust brightness levels. Turn the illumination off when not in use to conserve battery life.

Operating the Riflescope

1. Magnification Adjustment

Rotate the magnification ring, located near the eyepiece, to adjust the power from 10x to 40x. Higher magnification provides a more detailed view of the target but reduces the field of view and can amplify natural body movement.

2. Windage and Elevation Adjustments

The riflescope features external turrets for windage (horizontal adjustment) and elevation (vertical adjustment). Each click of the turret adjusts the point of impact by 1/8 MOA (Minute of Angle). To adjust, remove the turret caps (if present) and rotate the turrets as needed. Typically, 'UP' moves the point of impact up, and 'R' moves it right. After zeroing, you can reset the turrets to '0' by loosening the set screws and realigning the markings.

3. Using the Mil-Dot Reticle

The Mil-Dot reticle provides reference points for range estimation and holdovers. Each dot and the space between them represent a specific angular measurement (typically 1 Mil or 3.438 MOA at a specific magnification, often 10x for second focal plane scopes). Consult a Mil-Dot ranging chart or calculator for precise measurements based on your scope's specifications and chosen magnification.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning Lenses

Use a soft lens brush or compressed air to remove dust and loose debris from the lenses. For smudges or fingerprints, use a clean microfiber lens cloth and a small amount of lens cleaning solution. Wipe gently in a circular motion. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

2. General Care

Wipe the exterior of the riflescope with a clean, dry cloth to remove dirt, moisture, or fingerprints. Ensure all caps and covers are in place when not in use. Avoid dropping or subjecting the scope to severe impacts.

3. Storage

Store the riflescope in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, remove the illumination battery to prevent corrosion.

Troubleshooting

  • Blurry Image: Ensure the diopter adjustment is set correctly for your eye and the parallax is adjusted for the target distance. Check for dirt on the lenses.
  • Reticle Not Illuminating: Check the battery. Ensure it is inserted correctly and has sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
  • Inconsistent Point of Impact: Verify that the scope is securely mounted and that all mounting screws are tightened to the manufacturer's specifications. Check for loose components on the rifle or scope.
  • Limited Field of View: This is normal at higher magnifications. Ensure proper eye relief is maintained.
