This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation of your RS-25M marine radio.

3. Product Overview

The RS-25M is designed for ease of use and durability in marine conditions. Below is a diagram identifying the main components and controls of your radio.

4. Setup

Battery Installation

  1. Ensure the radio is powered off.
  2. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the radio.
  3. Open the cover and insert the 5 AAA NiMH batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Securely close the battery compartment cover to maintain the waterproof seal.

Charging the Batteries

The RS-25M comes with both an AC adaptor and a DC car charger adaptor for convenient charging.

  1. Connect the USB cable to the charging port on the radio (located near the antenna connector).
  2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to either the AC adaptor for wall charging or the DC car charger adaptor for in-vehicle charging.
  3. Plug the adaptor into a suitable power source.
  4. The radio's display will indicate charging status. Ensure the radio is fully charged before first use and for optimal battery life.

5. Operating Instructions

Power On/Off

Press and hold the [Power] key (usually marked with a power symbol) to turn the radio on or off.

Channel Selection

Use the UP/Down keys (▲/▼) to scroll through available channels. The current channel number will be displayed on the screen.

Channel Settings (INT/USA/Canada)

The RS-25M supports different channel groups. Refer to the channel list table below for specific frequencies and usage for International (INT), USA, and Canadian channels. The most commonly selected setting for the UK is INT.

Volume and Squelch

Adjust the Volume/Squelch/Monitor knob to control the audio output level. The squelch function helps to suppress background noise when no signal is being received.

Push-to-Talk (PTT) Key

Press and hold the [PTT] key on the side of the radio to transmit. Release the key to listen.

Instant Channel 16 Access

Press the dedicated Channel 16/CALL Channel button for immediate access to Channel 16, the international distress, safety, and calling frequency.

High/Low Power Selection

Use the High/Low Power/LOCK button to toggle between 3W (High) and 1W (Low) power output. Low power is suitable for short-range communication to conserve battery life.

Vibration Draining Function

The radio features a vibration draining function to expel water from the speaker grille after exposure to water. Activate this function as needed to ensure clear audio.

6. Maintenance

Cleaning

Wipe the radio with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Ensure the radio is dry before charging or storing.

Battery Care

  • Always use the provided charger and batteries.
  • Do not overcharge or deep discharge the batteries.
  • If storing the radio for an extended period, remove the batteries.

Storage

Store the radio in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

Radio does not power on:

  • Check if the batteries are correctly installed and fully charged.
  • Ensure the power button is pressed and held sufficiently.

Cannot transmit or receive:

  • Verify that the antenna is securely attached.
  • Check the selected channel and ensure it is appropriate for communication.
  • Adjust the squelch level.
  • Ensure you are within range of the other radio or station.
  • Check the power output setting (High/Low).

Charging issues:

  • Ensure the charger and USB cable are properly connected.
  • Verify the power source is active.
  • Check for any damage to the charging port or cables.
