4. Setup
Battery Installation:
The MESTEK IR02A is powered by batteries. Follow these steps to install or replace them:
- Locate the battery compartment on the handle of the device.
- Gently slide or open the battery compartment cover.
- Insert the required batteries, paying close attention to the correct polarity markings (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely until it clicks into place.

5. Operating Instructions
Powering On/Off:
To power on the device, simply press the trigger. The device will automatically power off after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life.
Taking a Temperature Measurement:
- Aim the infrared sensor at the target object. The integrated laser pointer can be used to assist with precise targeting.
- Press and hold the trigger. The current temperature will be displayed instantly on the screen.
- Release the trigger to activate the data retention (HOLD) function, freezing the measurement on the screen for easier reading.
Adjusting Emissivity (ε):
Emissivity (ε) is a critical factor for accurate non-contact temperature measurement, as different materials emit infrared energy differently. The IR02A allows adjustment from 0.1 to 1.0, with a default setting of 0.95, suitable for most organic materials and painted surfaces.
