Safety Information
- Use this product for outdoor irrigation with cold water only.
- Ensure all connections are secure to prevent leaks.
- Do not operate the sprinkler system if any components are damaged.
- Keep children and pets away from active sprinkler heads during operation.
Setup and Installation
The Orbit 80311-6" sprinkler head is designed for straightforward installation. It features a standard 1/2-inch female pipe thread (FPT) inlet for connection to various irrigation fittings.
Connecting the Sprinkler Head
- Ensure the water supply is turned off before beginning installation.
- Connect the 1/2-inch FPT inlet at the bottom of the sprinkler body to your irrigation piping. This can include Blu-Lock and Riser-Flex fittings, as well as 1/2-inch Schedule 80 PVC and cut-off risers.
- Hand-tighten the connection, then use a wrench for an additional quarter to half turn to ensure a watertight seal. Avoid over-tightening.
- Position the sprinkler head in the desired location, ensuring it is level with the ground surface.

Adjusting Pressure Regulator
The integrated pressure regulator can be adjusted to optimize performance for different nozzle types. This adjustment can be made either before or after installation.
- 30 PSI: Recommended for standard spray nozzles.
- 40 PSI: Recommended for multi-stream rotator nozzles.
To adjust, use a screwdriver to turn the adjustment mechanism located at the bottom of the can (before installation) or from the top of the can (after installation).

Operating Instructions
Once installed, the sprinkler head's nozzle can be adjusted to achieve the desired spray pattern and distance.
Adjusting Spray Pattern and Distance
- Spray Pattern Adjustment: Grip the top of the nozzle and turn it counter-clockwise to increase the spray area. Turn clockwise to decrease the spray area. The nozzle is engineered to deliver uniform droplet sizes across a 0-to-360-degree arc.
- Distance Adjustment: Use a small, slotted screwdriver to turn the center screw on the nozzle. Hold the base of the nozzle firmly so only the distance adjustment screw moves. Turn clockwise to decrease the spray distance, and counter-clockwise to increase it. The spray pattern can be reduced down to 75 percent of its rated distance. Ensure the nozzle filter is in place for proper distance adjustment.

Directing the Spray
After installation, the direction of the spray can be fine-tuned using the ratcheting riser stem.
- Gently rotate the riser stem to adjust the spray direction as needed. The ratcheting mechanism allows for precise positioning.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your sprinkler head.
- Wiper Seal: The over-molded structural support in the wiper seal ensures smooth retraction and prevents water bypass. Periodically check the seal for debris or damage.
- Riser Spring: The corrosion-resistant stainless steel riser spring provides reliable pop-up action. No specific maintenance is typically required for the spring itself, but ensure the riser moves freely.
- Silt Trap: The bottom of the can features an integral silt trap to prevent debris from entering the sprinkler mechanism. If water flow is reduced or inconsistent, the silt trap may need cleaning.
- Nozzle Filter: The adjustable pattern spray nozzle includes a filter. If the spray pattern becomes irregular or distance is reduced, remove and clean the nozzle filter.

Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your sprinkler head.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Sprinkler not popping up fully. | Low water pressure, debris in the riser mechanism, or damaged spring. | Check water pressure. Clean any debris from around the riser. Inspect the riser spring for damage. |
| Irregular spray pattern or reduced distance. | Clogged nozzle filter, incorrect pressure setting, or damaged nozzle. | Clean the nozzle filter. Verify the pressure regulator is set correctly (30 PSI for spray nozzles). Inspect the nozzle for cracks or blockages. |
| Water leaking from the base of the sprinkler. | Loose connection, damaged pipe thread, or faulty wiper seal. | Tighten the 1/2-inch FPT connection. Inspect pipe threads for damage. Check the wiper seal for wear or damage. |
| Sprinkler not retracting. | Debris obstructing the riser, or damaged riser spring. | Clear any debris from the riser. Inspect the riser spring for proper function. |
