4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Safety Precautions

  • Always disconnect the vehicle's battery before beginning installation to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Ensure proper ventilation around the unit.
  • Consult a professional for installation if you are unsure about any steps.

4.2 Mounting

  1. Select a suitable mounting location in your vehicle (UTV, ATV, boat, etc.).
  2. Use the provided mounting template to mark the cutout area. The template measures approximately 3-1/2 inches (89mm) tall by 5-1/2 inches (140mm) wide, with slightly smaller dimensions at the corners (3-5/16 inches tall by 5-1/4 inches wide).
  3. Carefully cut the opening in the dashboard or mounting surface.
  4. Insert the stereo unit into the opening.
  5. Secure the unit from the rear using the U-bracket and mounting hardware. Ensure it is firmly in place.

4.3 Wiring Connections

Refer to the wiring diagram below and the included wiring harnesses for correct connections. Professional installation is strongly recommended.

  • Power (Red/Yellow wires): Connect to a switched 12V power source and a constant 12V power source.
  • Ground (Black wire): Connect to a clean chassis ground point.
  • Speaker Wires: Connect to your vehicle's speakers. Ensure correct polarity.
  • Radio Antenna: Connect the radio antenna cable.
  • AUX In: Connect external audio devices using a 3.5mm audio cable.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off and Source Selection

  • Press the SRC button (Power/Source) to turn the unit on or off.
  • Press the SRC button repeatedly to cycle through available audio sources: AM, FM, Bluetooth, USB, AUX.

5.2 Volume Control

  • Press the Volume Up (+) button to increase the volume.
  • Press the Volume Down (-) button to decrease the volume.

5.3 Radio Operation (AM/FM)

  • In AM or FM mode, use the Tune Up (►►) or Tune Down (◄◄) buttons to manually tune to a station.
  • Press and hold Tune Up (►►) or Tune Down (◄◄) for automatic station seeking.
  • Press the BAND/SCAN button to switch between AM and FM bands or to initiate a scan for available stations.
  • To save a preset station, tune to the desired station, then press and hold one of the numbered preset buttons (1-4) until you hear a confirmation beep or see an indication on the display.

5.4 Bluetooth Streaming

  1. Select Bluetooth as the source using the SRC button. The display will show "BT AUDIO".
  2. Enable Bluetooth on your mobile device (smartphone, tablet).
  3. Search for available devices and select "Velex VX280" (or similar) to pair.
  4. Once paired, you can stream audio from your device. Use the Play/Pause (►►II), Next Track (►►), and Previous Track (◄◄) buttons on the stereo to control playback, or control directly from your device.

5.5 USB and AUX Input

  • USB: Insert a USB flash drive containing compatible audio files into the rear USB port. The unit will automatically switch to USB mode and begin playback.
  • AUX: Connect an external audio device to the rear AUX input using a 3.5mm audio cable. Select AUX as the source using the SRC button.

5.6 Display Brightness and Clock

  • Press the MUTE/DIM button to adjust the display brightness for day or night viewing.
  • Press the SEL/CLK button to access clock settings or other display options.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the unit's surface. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the finish.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Check the 3AG fuse and all power connections (red, yellow, black wires). Ensure the vehicle battery is connected and charged.
  • No Sound: Verify that the volume is not muted or set to zero. Check speaker wire connections and ensure the correct audio source is selected.
  • Bluetooth Connection Issues: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device and the stereo is in Bluetooth mode. Try unpairing and re-pairing the device. If issues persist, try resetting the stereo unit.
  • USB Not Playing: Ensure the USB drive is properly inserted and contains compatible audio files (e.g., MP3). The USB port is for data transfer, not for effective phone charging.
  • Radio Reception Poor: Check the antenna connection. Ensure the antenna is properly extended and positioned for optimal reception.
