6. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps carefully to replace your grill components. It is recommended to take photos of your existing setup before disassembly for reference.

6.1. Preparation

  1. Ensure the grill is completely cool.
  2. Disconnect the grill from its fuel source (e.g., turn off the propane tank valve and disconnect the regulator, or shut off the natural gas supply).
  3. Remove cooking grates and heat diffusers/flavorizer bars to expose the burners and heat tents.
  4. Wear protective gloves.

6.2. Removing Old Components

  1. Carefully lift out the old heat tents.
  2. Locate the ignitor wires connected to each burner. Gently disconnect these wires from the electrodes. Note their routing.
  3. Remove any fasteners (screws, pins) securing the burner tubes.
  4. Slide the old burner tubes out of the gas valve orifices.

6.3. Installing New Burner Tubes

  1. Align the new stainless steel burner tubes with the gas valve orifices.
  2. Carefully slide each burner tube onto its respective gas valve orifice, ensuring a secure fit.
  3. Secure the burner tubes with any necessary fasteners, ensuring they are stable and correctly positioned.

6.4. Installing New Heat Tents

  1. Place the new porcelain-coated steel heat tents directly over the installed burner tubes.
  2. Ensure the heat tents are properly seated and cover the burners to distribute heat evenly and protect against flare-ups.

6.5. Installing New Ceramic Electrodes (Ignitors)

  1. Attach the new ceramic electrodes to the designated mounting points, typically near the burner tubes. Some electrodes may require a screw for secure attachment.
  2. Connect the electrode wires to the corresponding terminals on the grill's ignition module. Ensure a snug connection. The 31-inch wire length provides flexibility for routing.
  3. Verify that the tip of each electrode is positioned correctly to spark near the gas port of its respective burner.

7. Operating (Post-Installation Check)

After installation, perform the following checks before cooking:

  1. Reconnect the grill to its fuel source.
  2. Perform a gas leak test according to your grill's original manufacturer instructions.
  3. Open the grill lid.
  4. Turn on one burner to its lowest setting and press the ignitor button. Observe if the burner lights. Repeat for all burners.
  5. If a burner does not light, turn off the gas and refer to the Troubleshooting section.
  6. Once all burners are confirmed to light, turn them off and replace the cooking grates.

8. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will extend the life of your replacement parts and ensure optimal grill performance.

  • Cleaning Heat Tents: After each use, once the grill is cool, scrape off any food debris or grease from the porcelain-coated heat tents. For deeper cleaning, remove them and wash with warm soapy water.
  • Cleaning Burners: Periodically inspect burner ports for blockages. Use a wire brush or a stiff wire to clear any debris. Ensure gas flow is unobstructed.
  • Ignitor Inspection: Check ignitor electrodes for corrosion or damage. Ensure the ceramic is intact and the wire connections are secure.
  • General Cleaning: Keep the interior of your grill clean to prevent grease buildup, which can lead to flare-ups and damage to components.
