Setup
- Connect to Battery: Ensure the mobility device or scooter is powered off. Connect the 3-pin XLR DC plug from the charger to the charging port on your wheelchair or scooter. Verify that the connection is secure and fully inserted.
- Connect to AC Power: Plug the 72-inch AC cord into a standard 100-240VAC universal input wall outlet. The charger will automatically detect and adapt to the input voltage.
- Initial Status: When the charger is connected to AC power but not yet connected to a battery, the LED indicator light will illuminate green.
Operating Instructions
The Schauer charger utilizes a sophisticated 3-Stage Charge Control system. This process begins with a Modified Constant Current Charge, transitions to a constant finishing voltage, and concludes with a float standby voltage. This intelligent system ensures the battery is fully charged and then maintained without any risk of overcharging, allowing the charger to remain connected indefinitely.
LED Status Indicator Light
- Green LED (Solid): Indicates that AC power is connected, but the charger is NOT connected to a battery.
- Red LED (Solid): Indicates that AC power is connected, the charger is connected to a battery, and the charger is currently in the Bulk/Absorption charge mode.
- Red LED (Flashing): Indicates that the charger is in the Finishing Absorption charge mode, nearing completion.
- Green LED (Solid): Indicates that the battery is fully charged, and the charger has transitioned into Maintenance/Float mode, safely maintaining the battery's charge level.
Maintenance
- Keep the charger clean and free from dust, dirt, and debris. Use a dry cloth for cleaning.
- Store the charger in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated area when it is not in use.
- Regularly inspect both the AC and DC cords for any signs of damage, such as cuts, fraying, or exposed wires. Do not use the charger if any cords are damaged.
- Ensure there is adequate airflow around the charger during operation to prevent overheating.
Troubleshooting
- Charger not turning on: Verify that both the AC cord is securely plugged into a live outlet and the DC plug is firmly connected to the battery port. Check the AC outlet with another device to ensure it has power.
- LED not changing from Red to Green: Allow sufficient time for the charging cycle to complete. Large capacity or deeply discharged batteries may require several hours. If the issue persists after an extended period, inspect the battery's condition or consult a professional.
- Charger gets warm during operation: It is normal for the charger to generate some heat during the charging process. However, if the charger becomes excessively hot to the touch, emits a burning smell, or makes unusual noises, immediately disconnect it from both AC power and the battery and contact customer support.
