Always follow basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves. Ensure your work area is clean and well-lit. Keep children and bystanders away while operating power tools. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.

Battery Safety: Use only Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion batteries and chargers. Using non-genuine or 'knock-off' batteries can cause fire, personal injury, or property damage. Always charge batteries in a well-ventilated area. Do not expose batteries to water or extreme temperatures. If you experience any performance issues with your battery, tool, or charger, contact a Makita Factory Service Center.

Bit Installation

Pull the chuck collar forward, insert the hex shank bit, and release the collar. Ensure the bit is securely seated.

Speed Selection and Modes

The XDT19 features a one-touch 4-speed power selector button located under the chuck for easy, one-handed speed changes (0-1,100/ 0-2,100/ 0-3,200/ 0-3,600 RPM & 0-1,100/ 0-2,600/ 0-3,600/ 0-3,800 IPM). It also includes:

  • Assist Mode (A-mode): Helps prevent screw cam-out and cross-threading by starting at a low speed until tightening begins.
  • Two Tightening Modes (T-mode): Designed for faster tightening of self-drilling screws in thick or thin gauge metal, reducing damage to the screw or workpiece.
  • Reverse Rotation Auto-Stop Mode: Stops rotation and impact when the fastener is adequately loosened, preventing over-loosening and dropped fasteners.

General Operation Tips

  • Always ensure the battery is fully charged before starting a task.
  • Match the tool's speed and torque settings to the material and fastener/bit type.
  • Apply steady, even pressure when drilling or driving.
  • Utilize the built-in L.E.D. lights for improved visibility in dimly lit areas.

Maintenance

Cleaning

Regularly clean your tools with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Keep ventilation openings clear of dust and debris to prevent overheating.

Battery Care and Storage

For optimal battery life and performance, store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Do not store batteries in a discharged state for extended periods. The Makita Star Protection Computer Controls™ technology protects against overloading, over-discharging, and overheating, but proper storage and charging practices are still essential.

General Inspection

Periodically inspect your tools for any signs of damage, loose screws, or worn parts. If any issues are found, discontinue use and contact a qualified service technician or Makita service center for repair.

Troubleshooting

  • Tool Not Starting:
    - Ensure the battery is fully charged and properly inserted.
    - Check if the forward/reverse switch is in the neutral (locked) position.
  • Reduced Power/Run Time:
    - The battery may need recharging. Lithium-Ion batteries perform best when fully charged.
    - Ensure the battery contacts are clean.
    - If the issue persists, the battery or tool may require service.
  • Overheating:
    - Allow the tool to cool down. Avoid continuous heavy-duty use without breaks.
    - Ensure ventilation slots are not blocked.
    - If the tool frequently overheats, it may indicate an internal issue requiring professional inspection.
  • Bit Wobble (Impact Driver):
    - Ensure the bit is fully inserted and the chuck collar is released to secure it.
    - Use high-quality bits designed for impact drivers.
