5. RAID Configuration
The LaCie 2big RAID offers two primary RAID configurations: RAID 0 and RAID 1. These can be configured using the step-by-step wizard during initial setup or via the LaCie RAID Manager software.
- RAID 0 (Striping): This mode combines both drives into a single large volume, maximizing storage capacity and performance. Data is written across both drives simultaneously. If one drive fails, all data on the volume will be lost.
- RAID 1 (Mirroring): This mode mirrors data across both drives, providing data redundancy. The total storage capacity is halved (e.g., 36TB becomes 18TB usable), but if one drive fails, your data remains accessible on the other drive. This offers protection against single drive failure.
Consult the LaCie RAID Manager software for detailed instructions on changing or verifying your RAID configuration.
6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliability of your LaCie 2big RAID.
- Drive Replacement: The unit features hot-swappable IronWolf Pro enterprise-class drives. If a drive fails in a RAID 1 configuration, it can be replaced without powering down the unit. Refer to the LaCie RAID Manager for instructions on safe drive replacement and rebuild procedures.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the device. Avoid liquid cleaners or solvents.
- Ventilation: Ensure the device is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Do not block the ventilation openings.

7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your LaCie 2big RAID, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Device Not Detected:
- Ensure the power adapter is securely connected and the unit is powered on.
- Verify the USB-C cable is properly connected to both the device and your computer.
- Try connecting to a different USB-C port or using a different USB-C cable.
- Restart your computer.
- Slow Performance:
- Confirm your computer's USB-C port supports the required speed (USB 3.1 Gen 2 or Thunderbolt 3 for optimal performance).
- Check for background processes that might be consuming system resources.
- Ensure the RAID configuration is set to RAID 0 for maximum performance, if desired.
- Drive Failure Indicator: If an LED indicator for a drive shows an error state, and you are in a RAID 1 configuration, the data should still be accessible. Replace the faulty drive as per the maintenance section and LaCie RAID Manager instructions.
For persistent issues, refer to the LaCie support website or contact customer service.
