1. Introduction
This user manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, installation, and maintenance of your Arebos Sand Filter System. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the device to ensure proper function and to prevent damage or injury. Keep this manual for future reference.
2. Safety Instructions
General Safety:
- Always disconnect the power supply before performing any maintenance or cleaning on the filter system.
- Ensure the electrical outlet is protected by a Residual Current Device (RCD) with a tripping current not exceeding 30 mA.
- Do not operate the pump if the power cord or plug is damaged. Contact qualified personnel for repairs.
- Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the filter system during operation.
- The pump is designed for circulating pool water only. Do not use it for flammable or corrosive liquids.
- Ensure the system is placed on a stable, level surface to prevent tipping.
Water and Chemical Safety:
- Never run the pump dry. Ensure it is always primed with water before starting.
- Maintain proper water chemistry in your pool to prevent damage to the filter system components.
- Avoid direct contact with pool chemicals. Follow chemical manufacturer's instructions for safe handling and storage.
3. Package Contents
Upon unpacking, please verify that all components are present and undamaged:

4. Assembly and Installation
Follow these steps for proper assembly and installation of your sand filter system:
- Positioning: Place the filter system on a firm, level surface near your pool, ensuring it is below the pool's water level for optimal performance.
- Connect Pump to Filter Tank: Securely attach the pump to the base of the filter tank.
- Install Filter Media: Remove the multi-way valve from the top of the filter tank. Carefully add the filter media (either up to 20 kg of filter sand with a recommended grain size of 0.4-0.8 mm or the included 600g filter balls) into the tank. Ensure the standpipe inside the tank is centered and protected from media entering it during this process.
- Install 7-Way Valve: Place the multi-way valve onto the top of the filter tank, aligning it correctly with the standpipe. Secure it firmly using the provided clamp or locking mechanism.
- Connect Hoses: Connect the pool hoses to the appropriate ports on the 7-way valve and pump. The system supports 32/38mm hose connections. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
- Install Pressure Gauge: Screw the pressure gauge into its designated port on the multi-way valve.
- Prime the Pump: Before starting, ensure the pump is filled with water to prevent dry running.

5. Operating Instructions
The Arebos Sand Filter System features a 7-way multi-function valve for various operational modes. Always turn off the pump before changing the valve position.

Close-up of the 7-way valve on the Arebos Sand Filter System, clearly indicating its various operational modes: Backwash, Rinse, Filter, Winter Mode, Drain, Closed, and Recirculate.
Valve Positions:
- FILTER: Standard filtering mode for daily operation. Water flows through the filter media, trapping debris, and returns to the pool.
- BACKWASH: Cleans the filter media by reversing water flow. Water is pumped down through the filter and out the waste port. Perform when pressure gauge reads high or water flow is reduced.
- RINSE: Used after backwashing to flush out any remaining dirt from the filter media and settle the media bed. Water flows through the filter and out the waste port.
- WASTE (DRAIN): Bypasses the filter and sends water directly out the waste port. Useful for lowering pool water level or vacuuming heavy debris directly to waste.
- RECIRCULATE (CIRCULATE): Bypasses the filter and circulates water directly back to the pool. Useful for mixing chemicals without filtering.
- CLOSED: Shuts off all flow to the filter. Use only when the pump is off and for maintenance that requires isolating the filter.
- WINTER MODE: Position for winterizing the system. This setting relieves pressure on the internal components during cold weather.
Pressure Gauge Monitoring:

The sand filter system with labels pointing to the integrated manometer for pressure monitoring and the 7-way valve for selecting different operational modes, all designed for user convenience.
The integrated manometer displays the internal pressure of the filter system. A rising pressure indicates that the filter media is becoming clogged and requires backwashing. Refer to the initial clean pressure reading as a baseline.

6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficiency of your Arebos Sand Filter System.
Backwashing:
- Backwash when the pressure gauge reads 0.2-0.3 bar (3-5 PSI) above its clean operating pressure, or when water clarity decreases.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the 7-way valve to BACKWASH.
- Turn on the pump and run until the water in the sight glass (if present) runs clear (approx. 2-3 minutes).
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the 7-way valve to RINSE.
- Turn on the pump and run for 30-60 seconds.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the 7-way valve back to FILTER.
- Turn on the pump to resume normal filtration.
Cleaning the Pre-filter Basket:

A detailed view of the integrated pre-filter basket, designed to capture larger debris like hair, leaves, and coarse particles, ensuring optimal filtration and protecting the pump.
- Regularly check and clean the pre-filter basket located on the pump.
- Turn off the pump and close any necessary valves to prevent water flow.
- Unscrew the pre-filter lid, remove the basket, and clear any trapped debris.
- Rinse the basket thoroughly and replace it, ensuring the lid is securely fastened to prevent air leaks.
Filter Media Replacement:
- Sand filter media typically lasts 3-5 years before needing replacement. Filter balls may require more frequent cleaning or replacement depending on usage.
- Follow the installation steps in Section 4 for replacing filter media.
Winterization:
- Before freezing temperatures, drain all water from the pump, filter tank, and hoses.
- Set the 7-way valve to WINTER MODE.
- Store the pump and valve in a dry, frost-free location if possible.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your sand filter system.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Low water flow / High pressure | Clogged filter media; Dirty pre-filter basket; Blocked skimmer/main drain. | Perform backwash and rinse cycle. Clean pre-filter basket. Check skimmer and main drain for obstructions. |
| Cloudy pool water | Insufficient filtration time; Clogged filter media; Incorrect water chemistry; Insufficient filter media. | Increase filtration time. Backwash and rinse. Test and adjust pool chemistry. Check filter media level and condition. |
| Water leaking from connections | Loose hose clamps; Damaged O-rings/gaskets; Improperly seated valve. | Tighten hose clamps. Inspect and replace O-rings/gaskets if damaged. Ensure multi-way valve is correctly seated and secured. |
| Pump not priming / Air in system | Low water level in pool; Air leak in suction line; Pre-filter lid not sealed. | Ensure pool water level is above skimmer. Check all suction line connections for leaks. Ensure pre-filter lid is tightly sealed. |
| Pump not starting | No power; Motor overload; Impeller jammed. | Check power supply and circuit breaker. Allow motor to cool if overloaded. Inspect impeller for debris. |
