4. Operating the System

This section covers basic operation of your Montavue security system.

4.1 Live View

After logging into the NVR, the system will display the live view of all connected cameras. You can switch between single-camera view, multi-camera grids, and customize the display layout using the on-screen controls or mouse right-click menu.

4.2 Recording

The NVR is pre-configured for continuous recording. You can adjust recording settings via the NVR's menu:

  • Continuous Recording: Records 24/7.
  • Motion Detection Recording: Records only when motion is detected by the cameras.
  • Schedule Recording: Set specific times for different recording modes.

Access these settings under Main Menu > Record > Record Schedule.

4.3 Playback

To review recorded footage:

  1. From the live view, right-click and select Playback.
  2. Select the desired date and camera channel(s).
  3. Use the timeline to navigate through recordings. Different colors on the timeline indicate different recording types (e.g., continuous, motion).

4.4 Motion Detection and AI Features

Your 4MP AI Smart Motion Bullet Cameras feature advanced motion detection. Configure these settings via Main Menu > AI > Parameters or Main Menu > Event > Motion Detect. You can set detection zones, sensitivity levels, and define actions upon detection (e.g., record, send notification).

4.5 Remote Access with MontavueGO

The MontavueGO app allows you to:

  • View live camera feeds from anywhere.
  • Play back recorded footage.
  • Receive push notifications for motion events.
  • Control NVR settings remotely.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your security system.

5.1 Hard Drive Management

The 3TB HDD will automatically overwrite the oldest footage when full. You can check the HDD status via Main Menu > Storage > Disk Manage. It is recommended to periodically back up important footage to an external USB drive or network storage.

5.2 Firmware Updates

Montavue regularly releases firmware updates to improve system performance and add new features. Check for updates via Main Menu > System > Upgrade or visit the Montavue support website. Ensure a stable internet connection during updates.

5.3 Cleaning Cameras

Periodically clean the camera lenses with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust, dirt, or water spots that may obstruct the view. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

6. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter.

6.1 No Video Display

  • Check Power: Ensure the NVR is powered on and the power adapter is securely connected.
  • Monitor Connection: Verify the HDMI cable is securely connected to both the NVR and the monitor. Try a different HDMI port or cable if available.
  • Camera Connection: For individual cameras, check if the Ethernet cable is properly connected to both the camera and the NVR's PoE port.
  • Camera Status: Check the camera's status LED (if present) to ensure it is receiving power.

6.2 Remote Access Issues

  • Network Connection: Ensure the NVR is connected to the internet and has a valid IP address (check Main Menu > Network).
  • MontavueGO App: Verify your smartphone has a stable internet connection. Ensure the NVR is correctly added to the app.
  • Firewall/Router: Check your router's firewall settings. Port forwarding may be required for certain network configurations, though Montavue systems often use P2P for easier setup.

6.3 Recording Problems

  • HDD Status: Check the hard drive status in Main Menu > Storage > Disk Manage. Ensure it is initialized and healthy.
  • Recording Schedule: Verify that the recording schedule is correctly configured for the desired channels and times.
  • Motion Detection Settings: If using motion recording, ensure sensitivity and detection zones are properly set.
