4. Setup Instructions

There are two primary methods to set up your WiFi Extender: using the WPS button or through a web browser.

4.1. Quick Setup (WPS Method)

The WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) method is the fastest way to connect your extender to your existing router.

  1. Power On: Plug the Blueshadow WiFi Extender into an electrical outlet near your main router. Wait for the Power indicator light to turn solid.
  2. Activate WPS on Router: Press the WPS button on your main Wi-Fi router. Refer to your router's manual for the exact location of the WPS button.
  3. Activate WPS on Extender: Within two minutes, press the WPS button on the side of the Blueshadow Extender. The WPS indicator light on the extender will blink during the connection process.
  4. Verify Connection: Once the WPS indicator light on the extender turns solid, the connection is successful.
  5. Position Extender: Unplug the extender and move it to a location halfway between your router and the Wi-Fi dead zone. Ensure the Signal indicator light shows a strong connection (typically green).

4.2. Manual Setup (Web Browser Method)

If your router does not have a WPS button or if the WPS method fails, you can set up the extender via a web browser.

  1. Power On: Plug the Blueshadow WiFi Extender into an electrical outlet near your main router. Wait for the Power indicator light to turn solid.
  2. Connect to Extender's Network: On your computer or smartphone, connect to the Wi-Fi network named "Blueshadow-XXXX" (where XXXX are the last four digits of the MAC address, usually found on the extender's label). This network will not have internet access initially.
  3. Access Setup Page: Open a web browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari) and enter 192.168.10.1 or re.blueshadow.com in the address bar.
  4. Log In: When prompted, enter the default username and password, which are typically admin for both.
  5. Select Repeater Mode: On the setup page, select "Repeater Mode" or "Extender Mode."
  6. Scan for Networks: The extender will scan for available Wi-Fi networks. Select your main router's 2.4 GHz network and 5 GHz network from the list.
  7. Enter Password: Enter the Wi-Fi password for your main router's network(s). You can choose to keep the extended network name the same as your main network or create a new name (e.g., "YourNetwork_EXT").
  8. Apply Settings: Click "Apply" or "Save" to finalize the settings. The extender will restart.
  9. Verify Connection: Once the extender restarts, the Signal indicator light should turn solid, indicating a successful connection.
  10. Position Extender: Unplug the extender and move it to a location halfway between your router and the Wi-Fi dead zone. Ensure the Signal indicator light shows a strong connection.

5. Operating Modes

5.1. Repeater Mode

In Repeater Mode, the extender wirelessly connects to your existing router and amplifies its signal, extending coverage to areas with weak or no Wi-Fi. Devices connect to the extender's network, which then relays data to and from your main router.

5.2. Dual Band Functionality

The AC1200 extender operates on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands:

  • 2.4 GHz Band: Offers wider coverage and better penetration through walls, ideal for general internet use, browsing, and connecting older devices. Supports speeds up to 300 Mbps.
  • 5 GHz Band: Provides faster speeds and less interference, suitable for bandwidth-intensive activities like HD video streaming, online gaming, and connecting newer devices. Supports speeds up to 867 Mbps.

6. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your Blueshadow WiFi Extender, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Keep Vents Clear: Ensure the cooling holes on the extender are not obstructed to allow for proper heat dissipation. Avoid placing the device in enclosed spaces or covering it with cloth.
  • Clean Regularly: Gently wipe the exterior of the extender with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
  • Avoid Extreme Conditions: Do not expose the extender to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the Blueshadow website for any available firmware updates to ensure the device operates with the latest features and security enhancements.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your WiFi Extender, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Internet Access After Setup:
    • Ensure the extender is within range of your main router. The Signal indicator light should be solid.
    • Verify that you entered the correct Wi-Fi password for your main router during setup.
    • Restart both your main router and the extender.
    • Try resetting the extender to factory defaults (using the RST button) and performing the setup again.
  • Weak Signal from Extender:
    • Relocate the extender to a position halfway between your router and the desired coverage area. Avoid placing it near large metal objects or appliances that emit electromagnetic interference.
    • Adjust the antennas on the extender for optimal signal reception.
  • Cannot Access Setup Page:
    • Ensure your device is connected to the extender's Wi-Fi network (e.g., "Blueshadow-XXXX").
    • Clear your browser's cache and cookies, or try a different web browser.
    • Verify the IP address 192.168.10.1 or domain re.blueshadow.com is typed correctly.
  • Connection Drops Frequently:
    • Check for interference from other electronic devices.
    • Ensure the extender's firmware is up to date.
    • Consider changing the Wi-Fi channel on your main router to avoid congestion.
