5. Operation

5.1 Basic Weighing

  1. Ensure the scale is on a flat, stable surface and shows "0.0".
  2. Step onto the center of the weighing platform. Stand still until the weight reading stabilizes.
  3. Read the weight displayed on the elevated screen.
  4. Step off the scale. The display will return to "0.0" or turn off automatically after a period of inactivity.

5.2 Unit Switching (kg/lb)

To switch between kilograms (kg) and pounds (lb), locate the unit switch button (often labeled "UNIT" or "kg/lb") on the display panel. Press it to toggle between the available units.

5.3 Tare Function

The tare function allows you to weigh an item while excluding the weight of a container or an additional object. This is useful for weighing infants with a blanket, for example.

  1. Place the empty container or object (e.g., blanket) on the weighing platform.
  2. Press the TARE button. The display will reset to "0.0".
  3. Place the item to be weighed (e.g., infant) into or onto the tared container/object. The display will show only the net weight of the item.
  4. To clear the tare, remove all items from the platform and press TARE again, or turn the scale off and on.

5.4 Hold Function

The hold function allows for comfortable reading of the weight value after the person or object has been removed from the scale. This is particularly useful for restless patients or when the display is not immediately visible during weighing.

  1. Weigh the person or object as usual.
  2. Once the weight stabilizes, the scale will automatically hold the value, or you may need to press a dedicated HOLD button if available.
  3. The displayed weight will remain visible even after the person or object steps off the scale.
  4. To clear the held value, press the HOLD button again or turn the scale off and on.

5.5 Mother-Child Weighing (Bercement Mère-Enfant)

This function allows for precise weighing of infants or small children who cannot stand still on the scale, by first weighing the parent and then the parent holding the child.

  1. First, the parent steps onto the scale and their weight is recorded.
  2. Activate the Mother-Child weighing function (refer to the display unit for a specific button or menu option, often indicated by a baby icon or "M-C").
  3. The parent then steps off the scale, picks up the child, and steps back onto the scale.
  4. The scale will automatically calculate and display only the child's weight.

5.6 BMI Calculation

The scale can calculate the Body Mass Index (BMI) after entering the user's height.

  1. Weigh yourself as described in section 5.1.
  2. Press the BMI button on the display unit.
  3. The display will prompt you to enter your height. Use the arrow buttons (if available) to adjust the height value.
  4. Confirm your height entry (often by pressing ENTER or BMI again).
  5. The scale will then display your calculated BMI.

5.7 Data Transfer

The scale features an integrated interface for direct data transmission to a PC or printer. This allows for easy record-keeping and analysis of weight data.

  • Connect the scale to a compatible PC or printer using the appropriate cable (not included unless specified).
  • Ensure the necessary software or drivers are installed on your PC.
  • Press the SEND button on the display unit to transmit the current weight reading.
  • Refer to the software or printer manual for specific instructions on receiving and managing the data.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

The weighing platform and display unit are designed for easy cleaning.

  • Wipe the surface with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
  • For stubborn dirt, use a mild, non-abrasive cleaning agent.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals, abrasive pads, or solvents, as these can damage the finish or electronic components.
  • Ensure no liquid enters the display unit or battery compartment.
  • Dry the scale thoroughly after cleaning.

6.2 Battery Replacement

When the battery indicator appears on the display, or if the scale fails to power on, it's time to replace the batteries.

  1. Turn off the scale.
  2. Open the battery compartment (refer to section 4.2).
  3. Remove the old batteries and dispose of them according to local regulations.
  4. Insert 6 new AA batteries, observing correct polarity.
  5. Close the battery compartment.

6.3 Storage

If the scale will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and damage. Store the scale in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
