1. Product Overview

The Gaggia MD15 Coffee Grinder is an automatic grinder designed for home use. 3. Components

Familiarize yourself with the main parts of your Gaggia MD15 Coffee Grinder:

4. Setup

Before first use, follow these steps to prepare your grinder:

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all packaging materials and ensure all components are present.
  2. Clean: Wipe the exterior of the grinder with a damp cloth. Wash the coffee bean hopper lid and ground coffee container with warm, soapy water, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
  3. Assemble: Place the ground coffee container securely into its position under the dispenser outlet. Ensure the coffee bean hopper is correctly seated on top of the grinder body.
  4. Fill Hopper: Open the hopper lid and pour whole roasted coffee beans into the hopper. Do not overfill beyond the maximum fill line. Close the lid.
  5. Connect Power: Plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Grinding Adjustment

The Gaggia MD15 offers 15 grind settings, from very fine (1) for espresso to coarse (15) for French press or filter coffee. Adjust the grind fineness using the rotary knob on the side of the grinder.

Note: It is recommended to adjust the grind setting only when the grinder is operating or completely empty to prevent damage to the burrs.

5.2. Grinding Coffee

  1. Ensure the coffee bean hopper is filled with whole beans and the ground coffee container is in place.
  2. Select your desired grind fineness using the adjustment knob.
  3. Press the START/STOP button on the control panel to begin grinding.
  4. The grinder will operate until the preset time or quantity is reached, or until you press START/STOP again to manually stop it.
  5. Remove the ground coffee container or place your portafilter directly under the dispenser to collect the freshly ground coffee.

5.3. Using the Digital Timer

The digital display allows you to set a specific grinding time or quantity for consistent results. Use the rotary knob to navigate through the timer settings and the START/STOP button to confirm your selection. Refer to the LED icons on the control panel for visual guidance on quantity or time settings.

6. Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your grinder.

6.1. Cleaning the Grinding Chamber and Burrs

  1. Unplug: Always unplug the grinder before cleaning.
  2. Empty Hopper: Remove any remaining coffee beans from the hopper.
  3. Remove Upper Burr: Follow the instructions in your quick start guide to unlock and remove the upper conical burr.
  4. Brush Clean: Use a small brush (often supplied with the grinder) to remove ground coffee particles from both the upper and lower burrs, and from the grinding chamber.
  5. Reassemble: Carefully reinsert and lock the upper burr into place.
