4. Setup

  1. Unpack the Keyboard: Carefully remove the keyboard and any accessories from the packaging.
  2. Connect to Computer: Plug the USB cable of the NEWMEN GM711 keyboard into an available USB port on your PC or Mac.
  3. Driver Installation (Automatic): The keyboard is plug-and-play. Your operating system (Windows or Mac) will automatically detect and install the necessary drivers. No manual driver installation is typically required for basic functionality.
  4. Optional Software: For advanced customization, such as macro recording and detailed RGB effects, please refer to the manufacturer's website for any available software.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 FN (Function) Key Combinations

The FN key (Function key) allows access to various multimedia and lighting controls when pressed in combination with other keys.

  • FN + INS: Switch between different backlight modes.
  • FN + 1: Activate Gaming backlight mode 1.
  • FN + 2: Activate Gaming backlight mode 2.
  • FN + 3: Activate Gaming backlight mode 3.
  • FN + 4: Activate Gaming backlight mode 4.
  • FN + 5: Activate Gaming backlight mode 5.
  • FN + Home: Customize gaming backlight mode. Press FN + Home to begin recording key colors one by one. The "Numlock", "Capslock", and "Scrolllock" indicator lights will breathe during recording. Press FN + Home again to save your customized lighting.
  • FN + ESC: Restore lighting effects to factory default settings.
  • FN + Del: Switch RGB backlight color.
  • FN + ← / →: Adjust backlight speed (left arrow for slower, right arrow for faster).
  • FN + ↑ / ↓: Adjust backlight brightness (up arrow for brighter, down arrow for dimmer).
  • FN + PrtScr: Turn off the backlight function. Pressing any arbitrary backlight mode key combination will restore the backlight.

5.2 Multimedia Control Knob

The dedicated knob located on the top right of the keyboard provides quick and easy control over media volume.

  • Rotate Knob Clockwise: Increase volume.
  • Rotate Knob Counter-clockwise: Decrease volume.
  • Press Knob: Mute/Unmute audio.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Keyboard

  • General Cleaning: Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or a mild cleaning solution to wipe down the keycaps and keyboard surface. Avoid excessive moisture.
  • Dust Removal: Use compressed air to remove dust and debris from between the keycaps.
  • Deep Cleaning: For thorough cleaning, keycaps can be removed using a keycap puller (not included unless specified in packaging). Clean the keycaps separately and wipe the keyboard plate. Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembling.

6.2 Hot-Swappable Switch Replacement

The NEWMEN GM711 features hot-swappable switches, allowing for easy replacement or customization without soldering.

  1. Power Off: Disconnect the keyboard from your computer before attempting to remove or install switches.
  2. Remove Keycap: Use a keycap puller to gently remove the keycap from the switch you wish to replace.
  3. Remove Switch: Use the provided switch puller tool. Align the prongs of the switch puller with the two clips on the top and bottom of the switch. Squeeze the clips and gently pull the switch straight up.
  4. Insert New Switch: Align the pins of the new switch with the holes on the keyboard PCB. Ensure the pins are straight. Gently push the switch straight down until it clicks into place. Do not force it.
  5. Reattach Keycap: Place the keycap back onto the new switch.

7. Troubleshooting
