1. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the Winix L500 Ultrasonic Humidifier. This device is designed to improve air quality by adding moisture to the air, offering both warm and cold mist options. It features a large 7.5-liter capacity, silent operation, a night light, and LightCel UV technology for enhanced hygiene. Please read this manual thoroughly before operation to ensure safe and efficient use.

2. Important Safety Instructions

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury, always follow these basic precautions:

  • Read all instructions before using the appliance.
  • Place the humidifier on a firm, flat, level surface at least 12 inches (30 cm) away from walls and 3 feet (90 cm) from heat sources such as stoves, radiators, or heaters.
  • Do not place the humidifier directly on carpet, towels, or other absorbent surfaces.
  • Always unplug the humidifier when not in use, before cleaning, or before moving it.
  • Do not operate the humidifier with a damaged cord or plug.
  • Do not block air vents.
  • Use only clean, cool tap water. Distilled or demineralized water is recommended to prevent mineral buildup.
  • Do not add essential oils directly into the water tank; use the designated aroma pad tray.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Do not immerse the base unit in water or other liquids.

3. Product Overview

Components:

  • Water Tank: 7.5-liter capacity for extended operation.
  • Base Unit: Contains the ultrasonic transducer, fan, and control electronics.
  • Mist Outlet: Where the mist is dispersed into the room.
  • Control Panel: Digital display and touch controls for various functions.
  • Aroma Pad Tray: Located on the side or back for adding essential oils.
  • LightCel UV Module: Internal component for water disinfection.
  • Anti-Limescale Capsules: Included to reduce mineral buildup in the water.

4. Setup

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove the humidifier from its packaging and place it on a flat, stable surface.
  2. Remove Water Tank: Lift the water tank from the base unit using the integrated handle.
  3. Fill Water Tank: Invert the water tank and unscrew the tank cap. Fill the tank with clean, cool tap water. Distilled or demineralized water is recommended to minimize mineral residue.

  4. Add Anti-Limescale Capsules: Place the provided anti-limescale capsules into the water tank before screwing the cap back on. These help reduce mineral deposits.
  5. Replace Water Tank: Securely place the filled water tank back onto the base unit. Ensure it is seated correctly.
  6. Plug In: Connect the power cord to a suitable electrical outlet. The humidifier is now ready for operation.

5. Operating Instructions

The Winix L500 features an intuitive control panel for easy operation.

5.1 Power On/Off

  • Press the Power button (symbol: circle with vertical line) to turn the humidifier on or off.
  • Upon first use or after refilling, the device may take a few minutes for sensors to adjust before mist production begins.

5.2 Mist Output and Temperature

  • Press the Mist button (symbol: three wavy lines) to cycle through mist output levels (Low, Medium, High).
  • Press the Warm Mist button (symbol: three upward wavy lines with heat icon) to activate the warm mist function. Press again to turn off.

5.3 Humidity Setting (Auto Mode)

  • Press the Humidity button (symbol: % sign) to set your desired humidity level (e.g., 40%, 50%, 60%). The humidifier will automatically adjust mist output to maintain this level.

5.4 Night Light

  • Press the Light button (symbol: sun/light bulb) to turn the night light on or off.

5.5 Timer Function

  • Press the Timer button (symbol: clock) to set the operating time (e.g., 2 hours, 4 hours, 8 hours). The humidifier will automatically shut off after the set time.

5.6 LightCel UV Technology

  • The Winix L500 incorporates LightCel UV technology to help reduce bacteria in the water, ensuring cleaner mist. This feature operates automatically when the humidifier is on.

5.7 Aroma Dispenser

  • Locate the aroma pad tray (usually a small drawer or compartment) on the side or back of the base unit.
  • Add a few drops of essential oil onto an aroma pad (included). Do not add oils directly into the water tank.
  • Insert the aroma pad back into the tray. The scent will diffuse with the mist.

6. Maintenance

Regular cleaning is essential for optimal performance and hygiene.

6.1 Daily Maintenance

  • Empty and rinse the water tank and base unit daily.
  • Allow all parts to air dry before reassembly.

6.2 Weekly Cleaning (Descaling)

  • Unplug the humidifier.
  • Remove the water tank.
  • Pour 1 cup (250ml) of undiluted white vinegar into the water tank and base unit. Let it soak for 20-30 minutes.
  • Use a soft brush or cloth to gently clean mineral deposits from the ultrasonic transducer and other internal surfaces.
  • Rinse all components thoroughly with clean water until the vinegar smell is gone.
  • Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth.

6.3 Aroma Pad Replacement

  • Replace aroma pads as needed, or when the scent diminishes.

6.4 Anti-Limescale Capsules

  • The effectiveness of anti-limescale capsules diminishes over time. Replace them according to manufacturer recommendations or when you notice increased mineral buildup.

7. Troubleshooting
