2. General Safety Instructions

5. Setup

Before operating your WORX Maker WX744.9, ensure you have a WORX MAKERX Hub, a compatible 20V PowerShare battery, and a charger (all sold separately).

5.1 Connecting to the MAKERX Hub

  1. Insert a charged 20V PowerShare battery into the MAKERX Hub.
  2. Connect the flexible power cord of the WX744.9 tool into the designated port on the MAKERX Hub.
  3. Ensure the connection is secure.

5.2 Attaching/Changing Tips

The WX744.9 comes with interchangeable tips for various applications. Always ensure the tool is cool and disconnected from the power source before changing tips.

  1. Ensure the tool is off and completely cool.
  2. Carefully unscrew the existing tip or tip connector from the tool.
  3. Select the desired soldering or pyrography tip.
  4. Screw the chosen tip or the iron tip connector (with the desired tip inserted) firmly into the tool. Do not overtighten.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Powering On and Temperature Setting

  1. After connecting the tool to the MAKERX Hub with a charged battery, press and hold the Power button on the tool until the digital display illuminates.
  2. Use the '+' and '-' buttons to adjust the desired temperature. The tool can reach up to 480°C.
  3. The tool heats rapidly, typically reaching the set temperature in under 30 seconds. The digital display will show the current temperature as it heats up.

6.2 Using the Tool

Once the desired temperature is reached, you can begin your work. Always place the hot tool on the included iron holder when not actively in use.

  • Soldering: Apply the hot tip to the joint to be soldered, then introduce solder. Ensure good contact for efficient heat transfer.
  • Pyrography (Wood/Leather Burning): Use the specialized wood burning tips to create designs on wood, leather, or other suitable materials. Adjust temperature based on material and desired effect.
  • Hot Cutting/Embossing: Certain tips can be used for hot cutting fabrics or embossing materials.
  • Paint Stripping: The tool can be used for small-scale paint stripping tasks.

6.3 Powering Off

To turn off the tool, press and hold the Power button until the digital display turns off. Disconnect the tool from the MAKERX Hub when not in use.

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your tool.

  • Cleaning Tips: After use, especially for soldering, wipe the tip with a damp sponge or brass wool while it is still warm (but not excessively hot) to remove excess solder or residue. For pyrography tips, allow them to cool and gently brush off any carbon buildup.
  • General Cleaning: Keep the tool body clean and free of dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store the tool in a dry, safe place, out of reach of children. Ensure the tool is completely cool before storing.
