3. Setup
Follow these steps to set up your Imou N18P POE NVR Recorder.
3.1 Hardware Installation
- Hard Drive Installation (Optional): If an HDD is not pre-installed, open the NVR casing, connect the SATA data and power cables to the HDD, and secure it with the provided screws. Close the casing.
- Connect Monitor: Connect a monitor to the NVR using either the HDMI or VGA port.
- Connect Mouse: Plug the USB mouse into one of the NVR's USB ports.
- Connect Network: Connect the NVR's LAN port to your router or network switch using an Ethernet cable.
- Connect PoE Cameras: Connect your PoE IP cameras to the NVR's PoE ports (1-8) using Ethernet cables. The NVR will provide power and data connectivity.
- Connect Power: Plug the power adapter into the NVR's power input and then into a power outlet. The NVR will power on automatically.
3.2 Initial Configuration
- First-Time Boot: Upon first power-on, the NVR will guide you through an initial setup wizard on the connected monitor.
- Set Administrator Password: Create a strong password for the administrator account. This is crucial for security.
- Network Settings: Configure network settings. DHCP is usually enabled by default, allowing the NVR to obtain an IP address automatically. For advanced users, a static IP can be configured.
- Add Cameras: The NVR will typically auto-discover Imou PoE cameras connected to its PoE ports. Follow the on-screen prompts to add and initialize them. For third-party cameras, manual addition via ONVIF or specific protocols may be required.
- Time and Date: Set the correct time zone, date, and time. Enable NTP (Network Time Protocol) for automatic synchronization.
