1. Setup

1.1 Power Source

The Casio MS-100EM calculator operates using both solar power and a battery. The solar panel provides power in well-lit environments, while the included 12V alkaline battery ensures continuous operation in low light or when solar power is insufficient. The calculator is designed to automatically switch between power sources as needed.

1.2 Initial Use and Automatic Shut-off

Upon first use, ensure adequate lighting for the solar panel or that the battery is correctly installed. The calculator will automatically power off after approximately 6 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life. Press any key to reactivate the device.

1.3 Memory Protection Battery

The calculator includes a memory protection battery. This feature ensures that stored data, such as currency rates or tax rates, are retained even when the main power source is depleted or during battery replacement.

2. Operating Instructions

2.1 Basic Calculations

Perform standard arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using the numeric keypad and corresponding function keys. The 10-digit LCD display shows your entries and results. The calculator features an input buffer to prevent missed entries during rapid key presses.

2.2 Currency Conversion

  1. Setting the Exchange Rate: Enter the desired exchange rate (e.g., 1.25 for 1 unit of local currency = 1.25 units of foreign currency). Press the SET % key, then the RATE key. The rate is now stored.
  2. Converting Currency: Enter the amount in the original currency. Press the Local key to convert to the stored foreign currency, or the Euro key (if applicable) to convert to Euro based on a pre-set rate.

2.3 Professional Percentage Calculation

To calculate percentages, enter the base value, then the multiplication or division operator, followed by the percentage value, and finally the % key. For example, to calculate 15% of 200: 200 x 15 %. The calculator can also determine percentage increases and decreases, displaying the calculated value separately.

2.4 Cost, Sell, Margin (CSM) Calculation

The profit calculation function allows you to determine costs, selling prices, and profit margins. Use the COST, SELL, and MAR (Margin) keys. Enter two of the three values, then press the key for the unknown value to calculate it.

2.5 Mark Up with Percentage Key

This function quickly determines margins and markups in commercial applications. Enter the cost, then press +, then the desired markup percentage, and finally the % key to see the selling price.

2.6 Memory Functions

The calculator features a 3-key memory system (M+, M-, MRC) to store and recall values for later use. M+ adds the displayed value to memory, M- subtracts it, and MRC recalls the memory content (press twice to clear memory).

3. Maintenance

3.1 Cleaning

To clean the calculator, gently wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth with mild soap can be used, ensuring no liquid enters the device. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the display or casing.

3.2 Battery Replacement

When the display becomes dim or unresponsive in low light conditions, it may be time to replace the battery. The calculator uses one 12V alkaline battery. Refer to the battery compartment on the back of the device for specific instructions on how to open and replace the battery. Ensure proper polarity. The memory protection battery helps retain stored data during this process.

3.3 Storage

Store the calculator in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity. Prolonged exposure to these conditions can affect performance and battery life.
