2. Safety Information
Installation and maintenance of gate systems should only be performed by qualified personnel. Always adhere to local building codes and safety regulations. Ensure all components are securely fastened and regularly inspected for wear or damage. Keep the gate area clear of obstructions during operation. Pinch points and moving parts can cause injury.
3. Installation Instructions
The following steps outline the installation process for the BENINCA HI-MOTIONS Cantilever Sliding Gate Kit. For a visual guide, please refer to the official installation video below.
3.1. Site Preparation
- Determine the distance between the carriages ('C') and the total length of the gate ('L') based on table charts or the configurator.
- Ensure sufficient space ('S') is available for the gate to open fully.
- Prepare the foundation where the carriages will be set. Observe the minimum weight of concrete (Pf) from table charts or the configurator. Concrete should have a weight of approximately 2000 Kg per cubic meter.
- The foundation depth must be at least 5 cm, and deeper than the length of the tie rods.
- Mark the positions for the plates with bolts, paying attention to the reference measurement 'C'.
- Fill the foundation with concrete.
3.2. Foundation Plate and Tie Rod Installation
- Prepare the tie rods by setting the nuts as shown in the figure, according to the type of carriage to be installed (refer to table for 'A' dimensions: Small/Medium: 60mm, Large: 70mm, XL: 80mm).
- Place the plate onto the tie rods and secure it with washers and nuts.
- Flush the tie rods into the wet concrete using the mounting plates as a reference template.
- Verify the leveling of the plates with the ground using a level placed above the plate. Ensure they are aligned. Proceed with alignment if necessary.
- Verify the alignment of the plates with the line of the gate opening.
- Once aligned, allow the concrete to dry for at least 24 hours.
3.3. Gate Stop Installation
- Proceed with the installation of the support set for the gate stop. Use table charts or the configurator to derive measure 'E'.
- In case of soft soil, create a 50 x 50 cm concrete pad and allow it to dry.
- Once ready, make three holes to fix the support, ensuring perfect alignment with the reference of the plates.
- Insert the plugs, set the plate, and secure it with screws.
3.4. Carriage Installation
- Install the carriages.
- Place the supplied washers and carriages onto the tie rods.
- The plates have slotted holes, which allow for further alignment of the carriage.
- Place the washers and nuts. WARNING: The nuts should not be fixed completely to allow for alignment of the carriages.
- Insert a track approximately 1 meter longer than the distance 'C' obtained from the configurator and place it in the middle between the two carriages.
- Perform three types of checks:
- Verify that the guide is perfectly flat along the two axes using a level. It is important to place the level in the center.
- If not aligned, adjust the nuts placed under the plates of the trolleys to perform the correction.
- Run the last check by sliding the track as shown in the figure to verify that the two carriages are aligned with each other. The holes in the base help correctly position the carriages for alignment.
- After performing all checks, tighten the nuts and remove the guide plates.
3.5. Guide Plate Installation
- Install the guide plate, ensuring it is aligned with the installed carriages.
- Make 4 holes for inserting plugs, place the plate, and secure using the 4 nuts.
3.6. Fixing the Gate to the Track
There are multiple solutions for fixing the gate to the track:
Solution 01: Welding
- Weld the track to the gate. Bring the track against the gate as shown in the figure.
- Run some weldings approximately 5 cm long with a distance of 50 cm on both sides.
- Check that there is no space between the gate and the track. The two surfaces must adhere.
- Secure with self-tapping screws.
Solution 02: Self-Tapping Screws
- Fix the gate with self-tapping screws. Place the track against the gate as shown in the figure.
- The screws must be placed at about 50 cm distance between each other.
- Check that there is no space between the gate and the track. The two surfaces must adhere.
- Secure with a worm screw and two nuts.
Solution 03: Welded Supports
- Weld some supports on the track with a distance of about 50 cm. The fixing of the gate can be done in two ways.
- Supports must be placed opposite to each other by a distance equal to the width of the gate. Pay attention not to weld on the inside where the gate will sit.
- Place the gate in the guide as shown in the figure.
Solution 04: C Channel Profile
- Weld a C channel profile along the track.
- Drill holes in the C channel with about a 50 cm distance between each other to fix the gate.
- The weldings must be made on both sides with a distance of about 50 cm.
3.7. Joining Two Tracks (If Applicable)
- If there is a need to join two tracks, cut off 50 mm from the ends to be welded. This is because the track tends to slightly open towards the ends due to profiling, making it difficult to join.
- Make a bevel of 60° on both tracks and couple them.
- Once approached, align them perfectly for welding.
- Grind the welding to make it flat and allow full support to the gate.
3.8. Final Adjustments
- Mount the gate limit stop on the ground support loosely, as it will be adjusted once the gate is mounted.
- Before mounting the gate, it is recommended to lubricate the wheels of the carriages. This helps the flow in the event of any internal friction between the wheels and monorails due to burrs remaining inside or small misalignments between the track and trolley.
- Insert the gate from both sides, depending on the space available. It is important to place it at the center to balance it between the two trolleys.
- Adjust the guide plate to secure the gate. Before locking the rollers, it is essential to check the alignment of the gate with a level.
- Insert the front and rear guide rollers. Loosen the lock screw of the plate and insert them into the track.
- Adjust the gate limit stop of the gate, previously mounted. Close the gate until it makes close encounter. Warning: The adjustment must be made as shown in the figure; the meeting is brought into contact with the wheel in the position shown, the gate must not be totally closed.
- Once the gate is completely closed, fix the top adjustable guide plate.
- Once the references are taken, set the adjustable plate with screws onto the wall.
- Close the gate and adjust the plate, taking care to leave on both sides one centimeter of room.
- Fully open the gate wide open and fix the support plate and the rear guide plate. Run the same tests and verify there is at least a 10 mm room between the carriage and the guide roller fixing plate.
4. Operation
Once properly installed, the cantilever sliding gate operates by smoothly gliding along the track, supported by the carriages. Ensure the path of the gate is always clear of any obstructions before activation. The gate should move freely and quietly.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of your cantilever gate system. It is recommended to:
- Lubricate: Periodically lubricate the wheels of the carriages to ensure smooth operation and prevent internal friction.
- Inspect: Regularly check all components, including rollers, tracks, plates, and fasteners, for any signs of wear, damage, or misalignment.
- Clean: Keep the track and rollers free from dirt, debris, and any foreign objects that could impede movement.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your cantilever gate system, consider the following common problems and solutions:
- Gate not sliding smoothly: Check for obstructions in the track, ensure rollers are lubricated, and verify that the track and carriages are properly aligned.
- Excessive noise during operation: This may indicate a need for lubrication or a misalignment of components. Inspect and adjust as necessary.
- Gate not closing/opening fully: Check the adjustment of the gate limit stops and ensure no physical obstructions are preventing full travel.
