2. Important Safety Instructions

Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

  • Read the entire operation manual carefully before use.
  • Keep the electric sheep shears out of reach of children.
  • Do not use this product on cats, puppies, or people. The powerful motor is designed for livestock and can cause injury to smaller animals or humans.
  • Ensure the power supply matches the voltage specified on the tool.
  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including eye protection, gloves, and sturdy footwear, when operating the shears.
  • Never operate the machine at idle for extended periods. Running idle causes friction between the blades, leading to rapid overheating.
  • Regularly lubricate the blades during operation (every few minutes) and take short breaks to allow the machine and blades to cool down.
  • Clean the blades thoroughly after each use to prevent buildup and maintain performance.
  • Be aware of the tool's size and weight (approximately 1.85 kg / 4.08 lbs); it may be large and heavy for some users.
  • Avoid using the shears in wet conditions or near flammable liquids or gases.
  • Always unplug the shears from the power outlet before cleaning, maintenance, or when changing blades.

Image 4.1: Key components of the shearing machine.

  • Speed Control Button: Adjusts the shearing speed (6 speeds).
  • Rotatable Button: Used to adjust blade tension.
  • On/Off Switch: For quick starting and stopping the device.
  • Adjustable Blade: The cutting mechanism.
  • Filter: Located near the power cable entry, helps prevent debris from entering the motor.

5. Setup and Assembly

Before operating the shears, ensure the blades are correctly installed and tensioned.

5.1 Blade Installation

  1. Ensure the shears are unplugged from the power source.
  2. Loosen the screws on the pressure yoke to allow for blade placement.
  3. Place the cutter blade into the pressure yoke's carrier cones. Ensure the pressure yoke's carrier cones are properly seated in the holes provided in the cutter blade (see Item A in Image 5.1).
  4. Insert the comb plate between the loosened screws and align it correctly (see Item B in Image 5.1).
  5. Tighten the screws to secure the blades.

5.2 Blade Tension Adjustment

The rotatable button on the shearing head is used to adjust the blade tension. Proper tension is crucial for effective shearing and to prevent excessive heat buildup.

Image 5.2: Adjusting blade tension with the rotatable button.

CAUTION:

  • If the shear-pressure adjustment head is released too much, the upper blade can fly off and result in injuries.
  • If the clipping pressure is too low, hair can gather between the clipping blade, reducing cutting efficiency.
  • If the clipping pressure is too high, the motor unit heats up excessively, and blades wear out faster.

Adjust the tension gradually until the blades cut cleanly without excessive resistance or heat. A good starting point is to tighten the tension nut until it is snug, then back it off slightly.

6. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your BEETRO sheep shears.

6.1 Powering On and Off

  1. Ensure the shears are properly assembled and blades are tensioned.
  2. Plug the power cable into a suitable electrical outlet.
  3. Use the On/Off switch for fast starting and stopping of the machine.
  4. Always turn off the shears when not actively shearing or when moving between animals.

6.2 Speed Control

The shears feature a 6-speed control button to adapt to different shearing needs.

Image 6.1: Speed control button with 6 settings.

  • Low Speed (1-3): Offers precision performance, ideal for clipping sensitive areas or for beginners.
  • High Speed (4-6): Delivers maximum power for faster trims and full body shearing.

Select the appropriate speed based on the animal's coat thickness and your comfort level.

6.3 Shearing Technique and Lubrication

For optimal results and to prevent overheating:

  • Always lubricate the blades with the provided special lubricating oil every few minutes during shearing. This reduces friction and heat.
  • Take short breaks during extended shearing sessions to allow the motor and blades to cool down.
  • Ensure the animal is calm and properly restrained before beginning to shear.
  • Use smooth, consistent strokes, moving against the direction of hair growth.
  • Keep the blades flat against the animal's skin to avoid cutting too deep or leaving uneven patches.

7. Maintenance and Care

Proper maintenance extends the life of your shears and ensures consistent performance.

7.1 Cleaning

  1. Always unplug the shears before cleaning.
  2. Use the provided cleaning brush to remove hair and debris from the blades and shearing head after each use.
  3. Periodically remove the blades for a more thorough cleaning. Refer to Section 5.1 for blade removal and installation.
  4. Clean the air filter regularly to ensure proper motor ventilation.
  5. Wipe the body of the shears with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not immerse the shears in water.

7.2 Lubrication

Regular lubrication is essential to reduce friction, heat, and wear on the blades and internal components.

  • Apply a few drops of the special lubricating oil to the blades before, during (every few minutes), and after each shearing session.
  • Ensure oil reaches all moving parts of the blade assembly.

7.3 Blade Sharpening and Replacement

  • Sharp blades are crucial for efficient and comfortable shearing. Dull blades can pull hair, cause discomfort to the animal, and strain the motor.
  • Blades should be sharpened professionally when they become dull.
  • Replace blades when they are worn out or damaged. An extra set of blades is included with your shears.

7.4 Storage

Store the shears in their hard carry case in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
