Telwin 804151 Lion Automatic Welding Helmet User Manual

1. Product Overview

The Telwin 804151 Lion Automatic Welding Helmet is designed for MMA, MIG MAG, and TIG welding applications. It features an LCD liquid crystal filter that automatically darkens upon arc ignition and quickly returns to a transparent state when the arc is extinguished. This allows for continuous work without the need to raise and lower the helmet, enhancing efficiency and safety. The helmet is lightweight, comfortable, and operates on solar power.

Key features include:

  • Automatic darkening filter with a quick response time of 0.3ms.
  • Two independent sensors for reliable arc detection.
  • Viewing area of 90x35mm.
  • Optical class rating of 1/1/1/2.
  • Adjustable headgear for optimal comfort.
  • Solar-powered operation, eliminating the need for battery replacement.

2. Safety Information

WARNING: Read and understand all safety instructions before using this welding helmet. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury or damage to the equipment.

2.1 Eye and Face Protection

  • This helmet is designed to protect your eyes and face from sparks, spatter, and harmful radiation under normal welding conditions.
  • Do not use this helmet for laser welding or overhead welding applications.
  • Always ensure the auto-darkening filter is functioning correctly before starting any welding task.
  • Never look directly at the welding arc with unprotected eyes.

2.2 General Safety Precautions

  • Inspect the helmet regularly for any damage, including cracks in the shell or scratches on the filter lenses. Replace damaged parts immediately.
  • Do not modify the helmet or its components. Unauthorized modifications can compromise safety.
  • Clean the helmet and filter lenses only with recommended cleaning solutions and soft cloths to avoid damage.
  • Store the helmet in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

3. Components

The Telwin 804151 Lion Welding Helmet consists of the following main components:

  • Helmet Shell: The main protective body of the helmet.
  • Auto-Darkening Filter (ADF): The electronic filter that automatically darkens.
  • External Protection Plate: A clear plate protecting the ADF from spatter and scratches.
  • Internal Protection Plate: A clear plate protecting the ADF from the inside.
  • Headgear: Adjustable straps for securing the helmet to the head.
  • Adjustment Knobs: For headgear fit, shade, sensitivity, and delay settings.
  • Solar Panel: Powers the ADF.

4. Setup

4.1 Headgear Adjustment

  1. Place the helmet on your head.
  2. Adjust the top strap to ensure the helmet sits comfortably and securely.
  3. Use the rear adjustment knob (often referred to as 'cruise adjustment system') to tighten or loosen the headgear until it fits snugly without being too tight.
  4. Adjust the distance between the helmet and your face using the side knobs to achieve optimal viewing and balance.

4.2 Filter and Protection Plate Check

  • Ensure the auto-darkening filter is correctly seated within its frame.
  • Verify that both the external and internal clear protection plates are clean and free from scratches or damage. Replace if necessary.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On

The Telwin Lion helmet is solar-powered. It automatically activates when exposed to sufficient light. No manual power button is required for basic operation.

5.2 Adjusting Shade, Sensitivity, and Delay

The helmet features adjustable settings to optimize performance for different welding tasks. These adjustments are typically found on the inside of the helmet, near the auto-darkening filter.

  • Shade Control: This knob allows you to select the desired dark shade level. For the Telwin 804151, a solid darkening of 11 DIN is provided, which is suitable for hobby use and various welding processes. Refer to welding standards for appropriate shade levels for your specific amperage and material.
  • Sensitivity Control: This knob adjusts how sensitive the sensors are to the welding arc. Higher sensitivity is suitable for low amperage TIG welding, while lower sensitivity helps prevent false darkening from ambient light.
  • Delay Control: This knob sets the time the filter remains dark after the welding arc has stopped. A short delay is useful for tack welding, while a longer delay helps protect eyes from afterglow and reduces eye fatigue during continuous welding.

5.3 Welding Process

  1. Ensure all adjustments (headgear, shade, sensitivity, delay) are set correctly for your welding application.
  2. Position the helmet comfortably on your head.
  3. Begin welding. The auto-darkening filter will instantly darken when the arc is struck.
  4. After the arc is extinguished, the filter will return to its transparent state after the set delay time.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Helmet

  • Clean the helmet shell with a mild soap and water solution. Avoid harsh chemicals or solvents.
  • Wipe dry with a soft, clean cloth.

6.2 Cleaning and Replacing Protection Plates

  • Regularly clean the external and internal protection plates with a soft cloth and a non-abrasive lens cleaner.
  • Replace protection plates immediately if they become scratched, pitted, or otherwise damaged, as this can impair visibility and filter performance.

6.3 Cleaning the Auto-Darkening Filter (ADF)

  • Gently wipe the surface of the ADF with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Do not use abrasive materials or harsh cleaning agents on the ADF.
  • Ensure the solar panel is kept clean and unobstructed for optimal charging.

6.4 Storage

Store the helmet in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight, dust, and corrosive materials. Protect it from impacts and extreme temperatures.
