Operating Instructions
Switching Inputs and Outputs
The OREI UHD-404 allows you to independently route any of the four HDMI inputs to any of the four HDMI outputs. This can be done using the front panel buttons or the included remote control.
- Front Panel Control: For each output (OUT 1, OUT 2, OUT 3, OUT 4), there are dedicated buttons (IN 1, IN 2, IN 3, IN 4). Press the button corresponding to the input you wish to display on that specific output. For example, to show Input 2 on Output 1, press the "IN 2" button under the "OUT 1" section.
- Remote Control: The remote control provides full functionality for switching.
- To select an input for a specific output, press the desired output button (e.g., "OUT 1") followed by the desired input button (e.g., "IN 2").
- The remote also features direct selection buttons for each input and output combination.

Downscale Functionality
The OREI UHD-404 supports a downscale function on each output. This means if you have a 4K source and a 1080p display, the matrix can automatically downscale the 4K signal to 1080p for that specific display, while simultaneously sending the full 4K signal to other 4K-capable displays. This ensures compatibility across various display resolutions.
The downscaling is automatic based on the EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) information received from the connected display. Ensure your displays are properly connected and powered on for accurate EDID detection.
EDID Management
The EDID setting on the unit helps manage how the source device outputs its video and audio signals. The UHD-404 typically handles EDID automatically by reading the capabilities of the connected displays. In most cases, no manual adjustment is needed. If you encounter display issues, ensure all devices are powered on and connected correctly, allowing the matrix to re-read EDID information.
Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your OREI UHD-404 HDMI Matrix Switch/Splitter, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Avoid using liquid or aerosol cleaners, as they may damage the device.
- Ventilation: Ensure the unit is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Do not block any ventilation openings.
- Power: Disconnect the power adapter from the wall outlet if the unit will not be used for an extended period.
- Environment: Keep the unit away from excessive moisture, heat, and direct sunlight.
Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your OREI UHD-404, please refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
No Picture or Intermittent Signal
- Check Connections: Ensure all HDMI cables are securely connected to both the matrix unit and your source/display devices. Try re-seating the cables.
- Cable Quality: Use high-quality HDMI 2.0 or higher cables, especially for 4K resolutions and longer distances. Inferior cables can cause signal loss.
- Power Cycle: Disconnect the power adapter from the matrix unit, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect it. Also, power cycle your source and display devices.
- Resolution Compatibility: Verify that your display devices support the resolution output by your source. The downscale function should handle mixed resolutions, but ensure it's functioning correctly.
- HDCP Compliance: Ensure all connected devices (sources and displays) are HDCP compliant. HDCP 2.2 is supported by this unit.
- Test Directly: Connect the source directly to the display (bypassing the matrix) to confirm the source and display are working correctly.
Remote Control Not Responding
- Check Battery: Ensure the battery in the remote control is correctly inserted and has sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
- Line of Sight: Ensure there is a clear line of sight between the remote control and the IR receiver on the front of the matrix unit. Remove any obstructions.
- Distance: Operate the remote within its effective range.
Resolution or Display Issues (e.g., incorrect screen size, flickering)
- EDID Re-read: Power cycle all devices (source, matrix, display) to force the matrix to re-read the EDID information from the displays.
- Source Settings: Check the video output settings on your source device (e.g., PC, game console) to ensure they are compatible with your displays.
- Downscale Function: If using mixed 4K/1080p displays, ensure the downscale function is operating as expected.
