INDEM MT20
INDEM MT20 Tubular Motor for Roller Shutters - Instruction Manual
Model: MT20 | Brand: INDEM
1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient installation, operation, and maintenance of your INDEM MT20 Tubular Motor for roller shutters. The MT20 is a robust and compact 230V operator designed for automating roller shutters, featuring mechanical upper and lower end stops.
Please read these instructions carefully before installation and use, and retain them for future reference.
2. Safety Information
- Installation and electrical connections must be performed by qualified personnel in accordance with local regulations.
- Ensure the power supply is disconnected before performing any installation, maintenance, or adjustment procedures.
- The motor must be correctly sized for the weight of the roller shutter. Using an undersized motor can lead to overheating and damage. For example, a 100 kg motor is not suitable for a 30 kg roller shutter.
- Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the roller shutter during operation.
- Do not obstruct the movement of the roller shutter.
3. Package Contents
Verify that all components are present in the package:
- INDEM MT20 Tubular Motor (45mm diameter)
- Adapters for 60mm octagonal roller tube
- Special hexagonal adjustment tool for end stops
- Mounting bracket/clip (may vary by kit)

4. Setup and Installation
The INDEM MT20 motor is designed for straightforward installation. However, basic electrical and mechanical knowledge is recommended.
4.1 Motor Sizing
Before installation, ensure the motor's torque capacity (20 Nm / 40 kg) is appropriate for your roller shutter's weight. Incorrect sizing can lead to motor failure or reduced lifespan.
4.2 Mounting the Motor
- Insert the motor into the 60mm octagonal roller tube. The included adapters ensure a secure fit.
- Secure the motor within the tube and mount the tube assembly into the roller shutter housing.
- Ensure the motor is firmly fixed and aligned to prevent strain during operation.

4.3 Electrical Connection
Connect the motor to a 230V AC power supply. Refer to the wiring diagram provided with the motor for specific connections (Live, Neutral, Earth, and control wires for Up/Down). Ensure all connections are secure and insulated.

5. Operating Instructions
Once installed and connected, the motor operates the roller shutter via a control switch (not included, typically a wall switch or remote control system). Pressing the 'Up' button will raise the shutter, and 'Down' will lower it. The motor will automatically stop at the pre-set mechanical end stops.
6. Adjusting Mechanical End Stops
The INDEM MT20 features mechanical end stops for precise upper and lower limits of the roller shutter's travel. These are adjustable using the special hexagonal insert tool.
- Locate the adjustment screws on the motor head. There are typically two screws, one for the upper limit and one for the lower limit.
- Use the hexagonal adjustment tool to turn the screws. Turning one direction will extend the travel, and the other will shorten it.
- Operate the shutter after each adjustment to verify the new limit position. Repeat until the desired upper and lower limits are achieved.

7. Maintenance
The INDEM MT20 motor is designed for minimal maintenance. Regular checks can help ensure long-term performance:
- Periodically inspect the roller shutter and motor for any signs of wear, damage, or obstruction.
- Ensure all mounting points remain secure.
- Keep the area around the roller shutter clean and free from debris.
- Do not attempt to lubricate the motor's internal components.
8. Troubleshooting
If the motor is not functioning as expected, consider the following:
- Motor does not respond: Check the power supply and electrical connections. Ensure the control switch is functioning correctly.
- Shutter stops prematurely or does not reach limits: Re-adjust the mechanical end stops as described in Section 6.
- Unusual noises during operation: Inspect the roller shutter mechanism for obstructions or misalignment. Ensure the motor is securely mounted.
- Motor overheats: This may indicate an undersized motor for the shutter's weight or continuous operation without sufficient cooling time. Refer to Section 2 for motor sizing guidelines.
For persistent issues, contact a qualified technician or your product retailer.
