5.1 Rivet Gun Function

Use this function for setting blind rivets. Ensure the correct rivet head size (2.4mm, 3.2mm, 4.0mm, 4.8mm, or 6.4mm) is installed.

  1. Drill a hole in your workpiece that matches the diameter of the rivet.
  2. Insert the rivet into the appropriate nose piece of the rivet gun.
  3. Insert the rivet into the pre-drilled hole in your workpiece.
  4. Firmly press the handles of the rivet gun together until the rivet expands and secures the materials.
  5. Release the handles to eject the spent mandrel.

5.2 Rivet Nut Tool Function

Use this function to install rivet nuts, which provide threaded inserts in thin materials. Ensure the correct rivet nut mandrel (M5, M6, M8, 10-24, 1/4-20, or 5/16-18) is installed.

  1. Select the appropriate rivet nut mandrel and install it onto the tool.
  2. Thread a rivet nut onto the mandrel.
  3. Insert the rivet nut into a pre-drilled hole in your workpiece.
  4. Press the arms of the tool together firmly to expand and set the rivet nut in place.
  5. Turn the rod (knob) on the tool counter-clockwise to unload the rivet nut tool and release the mandrel from the set rivet nut.

5.3 Reamer Function

The reamer function allows for enlarging or shaping holes in various sheet materials. Two reaming mandrels (arc/round and rectangle/square) are included for different applications.

  • Install the desired reaming mandrel (arc or rectangle) onto the tool.
  • Position the reamer over the hole or area to be enlarged/shaped.
  • Apply steady pressure and rotate the tool to gradually remove material.
  • The reamer is suitable for:
    • Aluminum sheet thickness: ≤ 2mm
    • Stainless steel sheet thickness: ≤ 1mm
    • Galvanized sheet thickness: ≤ 2mm
  • Minimum working aperture for reaming is ≥ 13mm.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Eastvolt EV-BT-501 tool.

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the tool with a clean, dry cloth to remove any dust, debris, or metal shavings.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a light machine oil to moving parts, such as the pivot points and mandrel threads, to ensure smooth operation.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect all components for wear, damage, or looseness. Replace worn or damaged parts immediately.
  • Storage: Store the tool and all its accessories in the provided compact carrying case in a dry environment to prevent rust and damage.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Eastvolt EV-BT-501, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:

  • Rivet not setting properly: Ensure you are using the correct size rivet head for the rivet. Apply firm and consistent pressure to the handles. Check if the rivet is fully inserted into the nose piece and the workpiece.
  • Rivet nut not setting or stripping: Verify that the correct mandrel size is used for the rivet nut. Ensure the rivet nut is fully threaded onto the mandrel before insertion. Apply sufficient force to set the nut.
  • Mandrel stuck in rivet nut: Ensure you fully turn the rod (knob) counter-clockwise to release the mandrel after setting the rivet nut. If it's still stuck, gently wiggle the tool while turning the rod.
  • Difficulty changing mandrels/nose pieces: Ensure no debris is obstructing the threads. Clean the threads and apply a small amount of lubricant if necessary.
  • Tool feels stiff: Lubricate all moving parts as described in the Maintenance section.
