1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the DaToo 500W PTC Aquarium Heater. This device is designed to maintain a stable and comfortable water temperature for your aquatic environment, suitable for 55 to 125 gallon aquariums. Featuring PTC fast heating technology, high-precision temperature sensing, and advanced safety protections, this heater ensures a safe and optimal habitat for your fish. Please read this instruction manual carefully before installation and operation to ensure proper use and longevity of the product.

2. Safety Instructions

  • Always unplug the heater from the power outlet before performing any maintenance, cleaning, or handling the heater.
  • Ensure the heater is fully submerged in water before connecting it to power. Operating the heater out of water can cause damage and is a fire hazard.
  • Do not operate the heater if the power cord or plug is damaged.
  • This heater is designed for indoor use in aquariums only. Do not use it for any other purpose.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • The heater features Over-temperature Protection: If the water temperature exceeds 97°F (36°C), the heater will automatically stop heating to prevent overheating.
  • The heater features Anti-dry Protection: If the temperature sensor probe is exposed to air due to low water level, the heater will automatically stop working to prevent dry burning.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the heater yourself. Refer to qualified service personnel.

3. Product Features

  • PTC Fast Heating System: Utilizes PTC semiconductor ceramics for rapid heating, converting 90-95% of electrical energy into thermal energy. Water temperature can begin to rise within 3 seconds.
  • High Precision Temperature Sensing: Equipped with two temperature probes for enhanced accuracy, maintaining water temperature within ±0.5°F (±0.3°C) of the set point.
  • Frequency Conversion Energy Saving Technology: Automatically reduces power consumption as the water temperature approaches the set point, utilizing thermal inertia to reach the target temperature. This can save up to 20% electricity compared to other 500W heaters.
  • Sturdy and Durable Construction: Features a PTC semiconductor ceramic heating element, which is stronger and safer than traditional glass heaters, preventing explosion, breakage, and electrical leakage. The high-strength ABS shell is resistant to external force damage and high temperatures, ensuring a longer service life.
  • Professional Double Safety Protection: Includes both over-temperature and anti-dry protection mechanisms to safeguard your aquatic pets and the device.

5. Setup and Installation

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect the heater and cord for any signs of damage.
  2. Placement: Position the heater fully submerged in your aquarium. Ensure it is placed in an area with good water circulation to distribute heat evenly. Avoid placing it directly in the substrate.
  3. Secure: Use the provided suction cups to firmly attach the heater to the inside wall of your aquarium. Ensure it is stable and cannot be dislodged by fish or other tank inhabitants.
  4. Power Connection: Once the heater is securely placed and fully submerged, connect the power plug to a grounded electrical outlet.
  5. Initial Setup: Allow the heater to acclimate to the aquarium water temperature for at least 15-20 minutes before powering it on or setting the desired temperature.

6. Operation

The DaToo 500W PTC Aquarium Heater features an external temperature controller for easy adjustment.

  • Setting Temperature: Use the 'SET' button on the external controller to adjust the desired water temperature. Each press will cycle through available temperature settings.
  • Confirming Setting: The display will show the set temperature briefly, then revert to displaying the current water temperature.
  • Resetting: The 'RESET' button can be used to clear certain error states or reset the heater's internal logic if needed.
  • Indicator Lights:
    • HEATING (Red LED): Illuminates when the heater is actively heating the water.
    • KEEP (Green LED): Illuminates when the water temperature has reached the set point and the heater is maintaining it.
  • Automatic Adjustment: The heater will automatically turn on and off to maintain the set temperature, utilizing its frequency conversion technology for efficient operation.

7. Maintenance

  • Regular Cleaning: Periodically unplug the heater and remove it from the aquarium. Gently wipe the heater surface with a soft cloth to remove algae or mineral deposits. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Cord Inspection: Regularly check the power cord for any signs of fraying, cuts, or damage. If damage is found, discontinue use immediately.
  • Suction Cup Check: Ensure the suction cups remain firmly attached to the aquarium wall. Replace if they lose their grip.
  • Water Level: Always ensure the water level in your aquarium is above the minimum immersion line of the heater to prevent dry burning.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Heater not heatingNot plugged in; Power outage; Temperature set too low; Heater in 'KEEP' mode; Faulty unit.Check power connection; Verify power supply; Increase set temperature; If 'KEEP' light is on, water is at set temp; Contact support if persistent.
Water temperature too highTemperature set too high; Heater malfunction; External heat source.Lower set temperature; Unplug and contact support if overheating persists; Check for other heat sources.
Display shows 'EE' errorDry burning protection activated (low water level); Sensor malfunction.Check and restore water level above minimum immersion line; Press 'RESET' button; If error persists, contact support.
Heater turns off frequentlyNormal operation (maintaining temperature); Over-temperature protection activated. This is normal if the 'KEEP' light is on. If 'HEATING' light is on and it turns off before reaching set temp, check for over-temperature conditions (water too hot).
