4. Setup and Assembly

The AQQA Gravel Cleaner is designed for easy assembly without additional tools. Follow these steps to set up your cleaner:

  1. Attach the Desired Inlet: Select the appropriate suction inlet (Gravel Washer, Duckbill Suction, or 45° Corner Suction) for your cleaning task and securely attach it to the bottom of the water pump unit.
  2. Extend the Telescopic Tube: Adjust the telescopic tube to the desired length for your aquarium depth. The tube can extend from 16.9 inches to 33.6 inches. Ensure it is securely locked in place.
  3. Connect the Water Pipe (Hose): For water changing or draining, connect one end of the provided water pipe to the outlet on the pump unit. Direct the other end into a bucket or drain.
  4. Attach Water Shower (Optional): For water showering or circulation, attach the water shower with filter bag to the designated outlet. Ensure the filter bag is properly secured.
  5. Secure Water Intake Strainer (for water changing/adding): If using for water changing or adding, attach the 360° water intake strainer with suction cups to the pump unit and secure it to the aquarium glass.

5. Operating Instructions

Before operation, ensure the device is correctly assembled for your intended use and the pump is fully submerged in water.

5.1. Gravel Cleaning / Sand Washing / Debris Removal

  1. Attach the Gravel Washer, Duckbill Suction Inlet, or 45° Corner Suction Inlet.
  2. Submerge the pump and the chosen inlet into the aquarium water.
  3. Plug in the power cord and turn on the switch.
  4. Gently move the inlet over the gravel or sand bed. The suction will draw up debris and dirty water, which will then pass through the filter bag (if attached) or be expelled via the hose.
  5. For sand washing, ensure the gravel washer with filter sponge is used to prevent sand from being sucked into the pump.
  6. For debris, use the duckbill suction inlet with spatula to effectively collect larger particles.

5.2. Water Changing / Pumping Water

  1. Attach the 360° Water Intake Strainer to the pump unit.
  2. Connect the water pipe (hose) to the pump's outlet and direct the other end into a suitable container or drain.
  3. Submerge the pump unit into the aquarium. The starting water level can be as low as 2 inches, and pumping can occur down to 0.3 inches.
  4. Plug in the power cord and turn on the switch to begin pumping water out of the tank.
  5. To add water, place the 360° Water Intake Strainer into a bucket of clean water and direct the outlet hose into the aquarium. Turn on the pump.

5.3. Water Shower / Water Circulation

  1. Attach the Water Shower with Filter Bag to the pump's outlet.
  2. Submerge the pump unit into the aquarium.
  3. Plug in the power cord and turn on the switch. The water will be drawn through the pump, filtered by the filter bag, and then discharged as a shower back into the tank, aiding in water circulation or for showering aquatic pets like turtles.

5.4. Wall Cleaning

  2. Submerge the pump and brush head into the aquarium.
  3. Plug in the power cord and turn on the switch.
  4. Gently scrub the interior walls of the aquarium to remove algae and other buildup. The pump will help circulate the dislodged debris for easier removal.

6. Maintenance

Regular cleaning of the pump and attachments is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of the device.

  1. Disassembly: Unplug the device. Disassemble the pump unit by unscrewing the intake cover. Carefully remove the impeller.
  2. Cleaning: Rinse all components, especially the impeller and its housing, under clean running water to remove any debris, sand, or slime. Use a small brush if necessary to clean tight spaces.
  3. Filter Bag: If using the filter bag, empty its contents and rinse it thoroughly.
  4. Reassembly: Once all parts are clean, reassemble the pump unit in reverse order. Ensure the impeller is correctly seated and the cover is securely fastened.

    • Check for blockages in the suction inlet, impeller, or hose. Disassemble and clean as per Maintenance instructions.
    • Ensure the pump is fully submerged in water.
    • If using a filter bag, check if it is clogged and needs cleaning or emptying.
    • Ensure the telescopic tube is securely locked and there are no air leaks.
  • Unusual Noise:
    • Turn off and unplug the device. Inspect the impeller for any foreign objects (e.g., gravel, sand) that might be causing obstruction. Clean thoroughly.
    • Ensure the impeller is correctly installed and seated.
  • Water Leakage:
    • Check all connections for tightness. Ensure attachments are securely fastened.
