1. Introduction

Welcome to the Discovery #MINDBLOWN Crystal Growing Kit! This 14-piece lab kit provides an engaging way to explore the science of crystallography. You will grow unique, spiky colored crystals using various molds and display them on an LED light stand. This manual provides essential instructions for safe and successful crystal growth.

2. Safety Information

WARNING: Adult supervision is required. This kit contains chemicals that can be harmful if misused. Read all instructions before use.

• Always wear the provided safety goggles when handling chemicals.
• Do not ingest any of the chemicals or solutions. Keep them away from eyes and mouth.
• Wash hands thoroughly before and after handling chemicals.
• Keep all kit components out of reach of small children and pets.
• Perform experiments in a well-ventilated area.
• Dispose of any leftover solutions or crystals according to local regulations. Do not pour down drains.

3. Kit Components

Before starting, ensure all the following components are present in your kit:

• 2 Color Dyes (0.135 fl. oz. / 4mL each)

4. Setup and Crystal Growth Instructions

Follow these steps carefully to grow your crystals:

1. Prepare the Solution: Boil water in a heat-safe container.

2. Mix Ingredients: Pour the entire bag of Spikey Chemicals into a heat-resistant measuring cup. Carefully add the boiled water to the measuring cup and stir with the mixing stick until the powder is fully dissolved.
3. Prepare Growing Trays: Carefully cut out the individual growing trays from the plastic sheet.
4. Pour Solution: Slowly and carefully pour the crystal solution into each of the prepared growing trays.
5. Add Color: Add a few drops of your desired color dye to each tray. You can mix colors to create new shades. Stir gently with the mixing stick.
6. Place Starter Rocks: Place one or more starter rocks into each tray. These rocks provide a surface for the crystals to begin forming.
7. Wait for Growth: Place the trays in a safe, undisturbed location at room temperature. Allow the crystals to grow for approximately 2 weeks. Observe the changes daily.
8. Drain and Dry: After 2 weeks, carefully drain any remaining liquid from the trays. Allow the grown crystals to dry completely.

5. Displaying Your Crystals

Once your crystals are fully grown and dry, you can proudly display them:

• Place your favorite crystal creation onto the Color-Changing LED Display Base.
• Turn on the LED base to illuminate your crystals from underneath, creating a dazzling visual effect.
• Use the magnifier to examine the intricate details and unique formations of your grown crystals.

6. Care and Maintenance

To ensure the longevity of your crystals and kit components:

• Keep grown crystals in a dry environment to prevent dissolution or damage.
• Clean the LED display base with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquids.
• Store unused chemicals and kit components in their original packaging in a cool, dry place.

7. Troubleshooting

If your crystals are not growing as expected, consider the following:

• No Growth or Small Crystals: Ensure the water was hot enough to fully dissolve the crystal powder. The solution needs to be saturated for optimal growth. Also, verify the solution was not disturbed during the growth period.
• Cloudy Solution: This can sometimes happen if the solution cools too quickly or if there are impurities. Ensure the water used is clean.
• Crystals Dissolving: If crystals appear to shrink or dissolve, they may be exposed to too much humidity or water. Keep them in a dry environment.
• Incomplete Dissolution of Powder: If the powder did not fully dissolve, the water might not have been hot enough, or not enough stirring occurred. Reheat the solution gently (if safe) and stir thoroughly.
