Before First Use

Before using your coffee maker for the first time, it is recommended to clean all parts thoroughly.

  1. Wash the glass carafe, lid, and reusable nylon filter in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  2. Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not immerse the main unit in water.
  3. Run a brewing cycle with only water (no coffee grounds) to clean the internal components. Fill the water reservoir to the MAX level, place the empty carafe on the warming plate, and turn the unit ON. Discard the water after the cycle.

Setup and Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to brew coffee with your Holstein Housewares 5-Cup Coffee Maker:

  1. Placement: Place the coffee maker on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface.
  2. Fill Water Reservoir: Open the lid and fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water. Use the water level markings on the transparent window as a guide. Do not exceed the MAX fill line.
  3. Add Coffee Grounds: Place the reusable nylon filter into the filter basket. Add the desired amount of ground coffee into the filter. A general guideline is one level measuring spoon (provided) per cup of coffee. Adjust to your taste.
  4. Close Lid: Close the lid securely.
  5. Position Carafe: Ensure the glass carafe with its lid is properly placed on the warming plate.
  6. Plug In: Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet.
  7. Start Brewing: Press the ON/OFF switch to the 'ON' position. The indicator light will illuminate, and brewing will begin.
  8. Auto Pause and Serve: The coffee maker features an auto pause and serve function, allowing you to temporarily remove the carafe to pour a cup before the brewing cycle is complete. The flow of coffee will stop for approximately 30 seconds. Return the carafe to the warming plate within this time to prevent overflow.
  9. Serving: Once brewing is complete, the coffee maker will automatically keep the coffee warm on the warming plate.
  10. Turn Off: After serving, press the ON/OFF switch to the 'OFF' position and unplug the appliance.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and longevity of your coffee maker.

  1. Daily Cleaning: After each use, turn off and unplug the coffee maker. Allow it to cool completely. Remove the glass carafe, lid, and reusable nylon filter. Wash these parts in warm, soapy water. The reusable filter and filter basket are top-rack dishwasher safe.
  2. Wipe Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  3. Descaling (Monthly or as needed): Mineral deposits from water can build up over time and affect performance. To descale, fill the water reservoir with a mixture of white vinegar and water (1:2 ratio). Place the empty carafe on the warming plate. Turn the coffee maker ON and allow half of the solution to brew. Turn the unit OFF and let it soak for at least 15 minutes. Then, turn the unit ON again and brew the remaining solution. Discard the solution and run two full cycles with fresh, cold water to rinse thoroughly.
