Setup
1. Attaching the Reel to Your Rod
- Loosen the reel seat on your fishing rod.
- Place the reel foot into the reel seat.
- Tighten the reel seat securely until the reel is firmly attached and does not wobble.
2. Spooling Fishing Line
The Viper X spinning reel is compatible with both monofilament and braided lines. Refer to the specifications table for recommended line capacities for your specific reel size.
- Open the bail arm.
- Tie the end of your fishing line to the spool using an arbor knot or similar secure knot.
- Close the bail arm.
- Hold the line under slight tension and begin to reel slowly, ensuring the line lays evenly on the spool. Avoid overfilling the spool; leave a small gap from the spool lip.
3. Adjusting the Handle
The Viper X reel features an ambidextrous handle, allowing for left or right-hand retrieve. To change the handle side:
- Unscrew the handle knob on the side it is currently installed.
- Remove the handle.
- Insert the handle into the opposite side of the reel body.
- Screw the handle knob back on to secure it.
4. Drag Adjustment
The drag system controls the amount of resistance the line experiences when a fish pulls on it. Adjust the drag by turning the knob on the top of the spool.
- Turn the drag knob clockwise to increase drag tension.
- Turn the drag knob counter-clockwise to decrease drag tension.
Set the drag to approximately one-third of your line's breaking strength. This allows the line to pay out under heavy pressure, preventing line breakage.

Operating Instructions
1. Casting
- Hold the rod and reel comfortably.
- Press the line against the rod with your index finger.
- Open the bail arm with your other hand.
- Swing the rod forward, releasing your index finger at the desired point to cast the lure.
- As the lure hits the water, close the bail arm manually or by turning the handle.

2. Retrieval
The Viper X offers versatile retrieval speeds depending on the model size:
- 500, 1000, and 5000 Series: Feature a smooth 5.2:1 gear ratio, ideal for slower retrieves or when more torque is needed.
- 2000-4000 Series: Feature a faster 6.2:1 gear ratio, suitable for quick retrieves or working lures that require speed.
Turn the handle to retrieve your line. Maintain a steady retrieve speed appropriate for your fishing technique and target species.

3. Fighting Fish
When a fish strikes, allow the rod to absorb the initial shock. The Viper X's robust construction, including a reinforced stainless steel main shaft and zinc alloy drive gear, provides up to 33 lbs of max drag for dependable power.
- Keep the rod tip up to maintain pressure on the fish.
- Let the drag system work; do not try to overpower the fish by tightening the drag too much.
- Pump the rod and reel in line when the fish is not pulling.

Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and smooth operation of your Viper X spinning reel.
1. Cleaning After Use
The Viper X features an innovative waterproof design with sealing features to resist water and dirt. However, it is still important to clean your reel after each use, especially after saltwater fishing.
- Rinse the reel thoroughly with fresh water to remove salt, sand, and debris. Do not use high-pressure spray.
- Wipe the reel dry with a soft cloth.
- Allow the reel to air dry completely before storage.
2. Lubrication
Periodically apply a small amount of reel oil to moving parts such as the handle knob, bail arm pivot points, and line roller. Use reel grease on the main gear and worm shaft if disassembling for deeper cleaning (recommended annually or bi-annually depending on usage).
3. Storage
Store your reel in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Consider using a reel cover or bag to protect it from dust and scratches.
Troubleshooting
- Rough or Grinding Feel: This could indicate dirt or lack of lubrication. Clean and lubricate the reel as described in the maintenance section. If the issue persists, internal components may require professional inspection.
- Drag Sticking or Uneven: Ensure the drag washers are clean and properly seated. Avoid overtightening the drag when storing the reel, as this can compress the washers.
- Line Twists: This can occur from improper spooling, using lures that spin, or reeling against a pulling fish with a loose drag. Re-spool your line correctly, use swivels with spinning lures, and ensure proper drag settings.
- Bail Arm Not Closing Properly: Check for any obstructions or bent components. If the bail spring is damaged, it may require replacement.
