3. Assembly Instructions

The Yard Tuff 72-Inch Tow-Behind Rake requires assembly. It is recommended to have assistance during the assembly process due to the size and weight of components.

Before You Begin:

  • Unpack all components and verify against the parts list (not provided in this document, refer to packaging).
  • Ensure you have all necessary tools, typically wrenches and possibly a socket set.
  • Perform assembly on a flat, stable surface.

Assembly Steps (General Guidance):

  1. Attach the wheel axles and pneumatic tires to the main frame.
  2. Secure the spring steel tines to the rake bar. Ensure all tines are properly seated and secured.
  3. Assemble the hitch arm and attach it to the main frame.
  4. Install the lift handle mechanism. Ensure it operates smoothly to raise and lower the tines.
  5. Double-check all nuts, bolts, and fasteners for tightness.

Note: Some users have reported that the assembly instructions provided with the product may be minimal. Basic mechanical aptitude is helpful. Ensure all bolts are correctly sized for their respective holes.

4. Operation

Proper operation ensures efficient debris collection and extends the life of your rake.

Attaching the Rake:

  • Align the rake's pin hitch with the hitch receiver on your ATV, UTV, or utility tractor.
  • Insert the hitch pin and secure it with a cotter pin or R-clip.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Yard Tuff rake.

After Each Use:

  • Clean any accumulated debris from the tines and frame.
  • Inspect the tines for any bends, breaks, or damage. Replace damaged tines as necessary.
  • Check all nuts, bolts, and pins for tightness. Tighten any loose fasteners.
  • Inspect the pneumatic tires for proper inflation and any signs of wear or damage.

Seasonal Maintenance:

  • Lubricate moving parts, such as the lift handle pivot points and wheel axles, with appropriate grease or oil.
  • Store the rake in a dry, protected area to prevent rust and weather damage.
  • Consider applying a rust-inhibiting spray to exposed metal surfaces if storing in humid conditions.

6. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter during the operation of your rake.

Issue: Rake not picking up debris effectively or bouncing over uneven ground.

  • Possible Cause: Insufficient downward pressure on the tines.
  • Solution: The rake may require additional weight, especially on uneven terrain or for heavier debris. Consider placing a suitable weight (e.g., bricks, sandbags) on the rake frame.
  • Possible Cause: Towing speed is too high.
  • Solution: Reduce towing speed. Slower speeds often allow tines to engage debris more effectively.
  • Possible Cause: Tines are bent or damaged.
  • Solution: Inspect tines and replace any that are significantly bent or broken.

Issue: Lift handle is stiff or difficult to operate.

  • Possible Cause: Pivot points lack lubrication or are obstructed.
  • Solution: Apply lubricant to all pivot points of the lift mechanism. Clear any debris that may be interfering with movement.
  • Possible Cause: Fasteners are overtightened.
  • Solution: Loosen fasteners slightly at pivot points, ensuring they are still secure enough to prevent components from separating.
