5. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the performance and longevity of your amplifier. Follow these steps carefully.

5.1 Mounting Location

Select a mounting location that is:

Due to its compact size, suitable locations include under seats, inside dashboards, or in motorcycle saddlebags.

5.2 Wiring Connections

Ensure all connections are tight and secure to prevent intermittent operation or damage.

  1. Power (BATT+): Connect a fused power cable directly from the positive terminal of the vehicle's battery to the +V terminal on the amplifier. The fuse should be located within 18 inches (45 cm) of the battery.
  2. Ground (GND): Connect a ground cable of the same gauge as the power cable from the GND terminal on the amplifier to a clean, unpainted metal surface of the vehicle chassis. Ensure a good electrical connection.
  3. Remote (REM): Connect a remote turn-on wire from your head unit's remote output to the REM terminal on the amplifier. This wire turns the amplifier on and off with your head unit.
  4. RCA Inputs: Connect RCA cables from your head unit's pre-amp outputs to the CH1/2 and CH3/4 RCA input jacks on the amplifier.
  5. Speaker Outputs: Connect your speakers to the CH1, CH2, CH3, and CH4 speaker output terminals. Observe correct polarity (+ to + and - to -). For bridged operation, refer to the specific bridging instructions provided with your amplifier or consult a professional.

Note: The SounDigital 800.4 EVO 4.0 is a 4-ohm amplifier. Ensure your speakers' impedance matches the amplifier's requirements for optimal performance and to prevent damage.

6. Operating Instructions

Once installed, the amplifier requires initial setup and adjustment for optimal sound quality.

6.1 Gain Adjustment

The gain control matches the amplifier's input sensitivity to the output level of your head unit. It is not a volume control.

  1. Turn the amplifier's gain controls to their minimum (fully counter-clockwise) position.
  2. Set your head unit's volume to about 75% of its maximum level.
  3. Slowly increase the amplifier's gain control until you hear slight distortion, then back it off slightly until the sound is clear.
  4. Repeat for both channel pairs (CH1/2 and CH3/4).

6.2 Crossover Settings

The built-in crossovers allow you to filter frequencies, directing specific ranges to your speakers for improved sound quality and speaker protection.

Experiment with crossover settings to achieve the best sound balance for your specific speaker setup.

7. Maintenance

The SounDigital 800.4 EVO 4.0 amplifier requires minimal maintenance to ensure long-term performance.
