4. Setup and Initial Operation

4.1 Unpacking and Assembly

  1. Carefully remove the generator from its packaging.
  2. Inspect for any shipping damage. Contact your dealer if damage is found.
  3. Attach the wheels and handles if they are not pre-assembled, following the instructions in the separate assembly guide (if provided).

4.2 Adding Engine Oil

The generator is shipped without engine oil. It is crucial to add the correct type and amount of oil before starting the engine.

  • Place the generator on a level surface.
  • Locate the oil fill cap/dipstick.
  • Remove the cap and slowly add the recommended engine oil (e.g., SAE 10W-30) up to the upper mark on the dipstick. Do not overfill.
  • Securely replace the oil fill cap.

4.3 Adding Fuel

Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Do not use E85 or mixed fuels.

  • Ensure the engine is off and cool.
  • Move the generator to a well-ventilated outdoor area.
  • Unscrew the fuel tank cap.
  • Carefully pour gasoline into the fuel tank, avoiding spills. Do not fill above the red indicator or the bottom of the filler neck.
  • Securely replace the fuel tank cap. Wipe up any spilled fuel immediately.

4.4 Grounding the Generator

For safety, the generator must be properly grounded. Consult a qualified electrician if you are unsure about grounding procedures.

  • Locate the grounding terminal on the generator frame.
  • Connect a heavy-gauge copper wire from the grounding terminal to a suitable ground source, such as a ground rod driven into the earth.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Starting the Generator

  1. Ensure the generator is on a level surface and all electrical loads are disconnected.
  2. Turn the engine ON/OFF switch to the "ON" position.
  3. Move the fuel valve to the "ON" position.
  4. If the engine is cold, move the choke lever to the "CHOKE" position. If warm, set to "RUN".
  5. Grasp the recoil starter handle firmly and pull it slowly until resistance is felt, then pull quickly and smoothly. Repeat until the engine starts.
  6. Once the engine starts, slowly move the choke lever to the "RUN" position.
  7. Allow the generator to warm up for a few minutes before connecting electrical loads.

5.2 Connecting Electrical Loads

  • Ensure the generator is running stably.
  • Plug your appliances into the 230V AC outlets or connect your 12V DC device to the 12V DC output.
  • Do not exceed the generator's rated wattage (2800W max). Overloading will trip the circuit breaker.
  • The voltmeter on the control panel will show the output voltage.
  • The Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) technology helps maintain a stable output voltage, as illustrated below.
AVR Technology Voltage Stability Graph
Figure 5.1: Graph illustrating how AVR Technology minimizes voltage fluctuations compared to conventional generators, ensuring a more stable power supply.

This graph visually demonstrates the benefit of AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation) technology. The green waveform represents the stable output of the SG3200 with AVR, showing minimal voltage fluctuations. In contrast, the red waveform, representing conventional generators, exhibits significant voltage swings, which can be detrimental to sensitive electronics. AVR ensures a consistent and reliable power supply.

5.3 Stopping the Generator

  1. Disconnect all electrical loads from the generator.
  2. Allow the generator to run for a few minutes without load to cool down.
  3. Turn the engine ON/OFF switch to the "OFF" position.
  4. Move the fuel valve to the "OFF" position.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is essential for the longevity and reliable operation of your generator. Always ensure the engine is off and cool before performing any maintenance.

6.2 Oil Change Procedure

  1. Run the engine for a few minutes to warm the oil, then shut it off.
  2. Place a drain pan under the oil drain plug.
  3. Remove the oil drain plug and the oil fill cap/dipstick to allow the oil to drain completely.
  4. Reinstall the drain plug and refill with the recommended amount and type of new engine oil.
  5. Check the oil level with the dipstick and replace the fill cap.

6.3 Air Filter Maintenance

  • Remove the air filter cover.
  • Remove the foam filter element.
  • Wash the foam element in warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to air dry completely.
  • Lightly oil the foam element with engine oil, then squeeze out excess oil.
  • Reinstall the filter element and cover.

6.4 Spark Plug Inspection

  • Remove the spark plug cap and then the spark plug using a spark plug wrench.
  • Inspect the spark plug for carbon deposits or wear. Clean with a wire brush or replace if necessary.
  • Check the spark plug gap and adjust if needed according to specifications.
  • Reinstall the spark plug and cap.

6.5 Storage

For long-term storage (over 30 days), proper preparation is necessary to prevent fuel degradation and engine damage.

  • Drain the fuel tank and carburetor, or add a fuel stabilizer.
  • Change the engine oil.
  • Remove the spark plug and pour a small amount of engine oil into the cylinder. Pull the recoil starter a few times to distribute the oil, then reinstall the spark plug.
  • Clean the exterior of the generator.
  • Store in a clean, dry, well-ventilated area.
