5. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps carefully to install your GALAX B450M Motherboard and its components.
5.1. Installing the CPU
- Open the CPU socket lever.
- Align the triangular mark on the CPU with the corresponding mark on the socket.
- Gently place the CPU into the socket. Do not force it.
- Close the CPU socket lever to secure the CPU.
- Apply thermal paste and install the CPU cooler according to its manufacturer's instructions.
5.2. Installing RAM
- Open the clips on both ends of the DDR4 DIMM slots.
- Align the notch on the RAM module with the notch in the DIMM slot.
- Press down firmly on both ends of the RAM module until the clips snap into place.
5.3. Installing Storage Devices
5.3.1. M.2 SSD Installation
- Locate the M.2 socket on the motherboard.
- Remove the M.2 standoff screw.
- Insert the M.2 SSD into the socket at an angle.
- Gently push down the SSD and secure it with the standoff screw.
5.3.2. SATA Drive Installation
- Connect one end of a SATA data cable to a SATA 6Gbps header on the motherboard.
- Connect the other end of the SATA data cable to your SATA hard drive or SSD.
- Connect a SATA power cable from your power supply to the drive.
5.4. Installing Expansion Cards
For graphics cards, insert the card into the PCI-E 3.0 x16 slot until it clicks into place. Secure it with a screw to the PC case. For other PCIe cards, use the PCI-E x1 slot.
5.5. Connecting Power Supply
- Connect the 24-pin ATX power connector from your power supply to the corresponding header on the motherboard.
- Connect the 8-pin (or 4-pin) CPU power connector from your power supply to the CPU power header near the CPU socket.
5.6. Connecting Front Panel Headers
Connect the power button, reset button, HDD LED, power LED, and front panel audio/USB headers from your PC case to the corresponding pins on the motherboard. Refer to the motherboard diagram for exact pin locations.
5.7. Connecting Peripherals

6. Operating Instructions
6.1. First Boot
After all components are installed and connected, power on your system. The system should display the BIOS/UEFI splash screen. If no display appears, refer to the troubleshooting section.
6.2. BIOS/UEFI Setup
To enter the BIOS/UEFI setup utility, press the designated key (usually DEL or F2) during the boot process. Here you can configure system settings, boot order, and monitor hardware status. While the BIOS GUI may appear basic, it provides full functionality for CPU overclocking, RAM timings, and other essential settings. BIOS updates may introduce new features and improve compatibility, such as support for Ryzen 5000 series CPUs.
6.3. Driver Installation
After installing your operating system, install the necessary drivers for the motherboard chipset, audio, LAN, and any other integrated components. These drivers can typically be found on the GALAX official website or on the provided driver CD/DVD. For example, Realtek audio drivers are required for the front 3.5mm audio jack to function correctly.
6.4. Operating System Installation
Follow the instructions provided by your operating system manufacturer to install the OS. Ensure the boot order in BIOS is set to your installation media (USB drive or DVD).
7. Maintenance
7.1. Cleaning
Regularly clean your PC case and motherboard to prevent dust buildup, which can lead to overheating and component failure. Use compressed air to remove dust from fans, heatsinks, and other components. Ensure the system is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
7.2. BIOS Updates
Periodically check the GALAX official website for BIOS updates. BIOS updates can improve system stability, add support for new hardware (e.g., newer CPU generations), and fix bugs. Follow the instructions provided with the BIOS update utility carefully to avoid damaging the motherboard.
8. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter.
