1. Product Overview
The Coxreels 112Y-12 Challenger Storage Reel is a professional-grade, compact, and lightweight hand-crank reel designed for efficient storage and management of hoses, cords, or cables. Constructed with a solid one-piece heavy gauge all-steel U-shaped frame, it ensures durability and stability. The reel features heavy-duty CNC robotically spun and ribbed discs with rolled edges, providing enhanced strength, longevity, and protection for the stored material.
Its open drum design facilitates hassle-free hose wrap and easy pass-through. The reel is finished with a long-lasting, chip-resistant, and rust-inhibiting CPC powder coat, ensuring extended product life. A control bar is integrated to prevent the hose, cord, or cable from slipping off the disc during operation. This product is proudly Made in USA.

2. Setup and Installation
The 112Y-12 Challenger Storage Reel is designed for easy mounting. Ensure the mounting surface is stable and capable of supporting the reel's weight plus the weight of the hose/cable when fully loaded.
2.1 Mounting the Reel
- Select Location: Choose a flat, secure surface for mounting. The reel's U-shaped frame base has pre-drilled holes for attachment.
- Mark Holes: Position the reel on the desired mounting surface. Use the pre-drilled holes on the base as a template to mark the drilling locations.
- Drill Pilot Holes: Drill pilot holes into the mounting surface as appropriate for your chosen fasteners (not included).
- Secure Reel: Align the reel's base with the drilled holes and secure it firmly using appropriate bolts, washers, and nuts. Ensure all fasteners are tightened to prevent movement during operation.

2.2 Attaching Hose/Cable
While the hose is not included, the reel is designed to accommodate 8 GA./150' or 10 GA./225' capacity. To attach your hose or cable:
- Feed the end of your hose or cable through the open port of the drum.
- Secure the end of the hose/cable to the drum core using a clamp or tie, ensuring it is firmly attached to prevent slippage during winding.
3. Operating Instructions
The 112Y-12 reel features a direct hand crank for easy mechanical retraction and deployment of your hose or cable.
3.1 Deploying Hose/Cable
To deploy the hose or cable, simply pull it directly from the reel. The open drum design allows for smooth unwinding. Ensure there are no obstructions and the path is clear to prevent tangling.
3.2 Retracting Hose/Cable
To retract the hose or cable:
- Grasp the hand crank firmly.
- Turn the hand crank clockwise (or counter-clockwise, depending on your setup) to begin winding the hose/cable onto the drum.
- Guide the hose/cable evenly across the drum as you crank to ensure a neat and tangle-free wrap. The control bar helps prevent the material from slipping off the disc.

4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Coxreels 112Y-12 Challenger Storage Reel.
- Cleaning: Periodically wipe down the reel with a damp cloth to remove dirt, dust, and debris. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the CPC powder coat finish.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the reel for any signs of wear, damage, or loose fasteners. Pay attention to the hand crank mechanism, the drum, and the mounting points.
- Lubrication: While the reel is designed for low maintenance, a light application of general-purpose lubricant to the hand crank shaft and any moving pivot points can ensure smooth operation.
- Coating Integrity: The CPC powder coat finish is designed to be chip-resistant and rust-inhibiting. If any deep scratches or chips occur, consider touching up the affected area to prevent rust.
5. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your storage reel.
5.1 Difficulty Winding/Unwinding
- Hose/Cable Tangled: Ensure the hose or cable is not tangled or kinked before winding. Guide it evenly onto the drum.
- Obstructions: Check for any debris or foreign objects caught in the drum or around the hand crank mechanism.
- Mounting Issues: Verify that the reel is securely mounted and not flexing, which could cause misalignment.
5.2 Reel Wobbles During Operation
- Loose Mounting: Re-check all mounting fasteners and tighten them if necessary.
- Uneven Surface: Ensure the mounting surface is flat and stable.
- Uneven Hose Wrap: An unevenly wound hose can cause imbalance. Unwind and re-wind the hose, ensuring it is distributed evenly across the drum.
