2. Safety Information

Always adhere to general power tool safety warnings and instructions provided with the product. Failure to follow these warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury. Keep this instruction manual for future reference.

  • Personal Protective Equipment: Always wear appropriate eye protection (safety glasses or face shield), hearing protection, and heavy-duty gloves when operating the angle grinder. A dust mask is recommended for dusty operations.
  • Work Area Safety: Ensure the work area is clean, well-lit, and free of clutter. Keep bystanders and children away. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
  • Electrical Safety: Ensure the power supply matches the voltage specified on the tool. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions.
  • Tool Handling: Always maintain a firm grip on the tool. Use the auxiliary handle for maximum control. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped. Avoid accidental starting; ensure the switch is in the off-position before plugging in.
  • Accessory Safety: Only use accessories that are rated for the speed of the grinder and are correctly sized. Ensure discs are properly mounted and secured before operation. Inspect discs for damage before each use.
  • Kickback Prevention: Be aware of potential kickback. The Metabo S-Automatic mechanical safety slip clutch is designed to reduce the likelihood of kickback, but proper technique and awareness are still crucial.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Powering On/Off (Slide Switch)

  • To Turn On: Push the slide switch forward until it locks into the ON position.
  • To Turn Off: Push the rear part of the slide switch down to release it, and it will return to the OFF position.

6.2 Grinding and Cutting Techniques

Always allow the grinder to reach full speed before making contact with the workpiece. Apply moderate pressure; excessive force can overload the motor and reduce disc life. Maintain a consistent angle for optimal material removal and finish.

  • Grinding: Use the edge of the grinding disc at an angle of approximately 15-30 degrees to the workpiece. Move the grinder smoothly across the surface.
  • Cutting: Use a thin cutting disc. Hold the grinder perpendicular to the workpiece (90-degree angle). Make straight, controlled cuts. Avoid twisting or bending the disc during cutting.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your Metabo angle grinder. Always unplug the tool before performing any maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the ventilation slots to prevent dust buildup, which can lead to overheating. Use a soft brush or compressed air. Do not use water or solvents.
  • Carbon Brushes: The tool is equipped with auto-stop carbon brushes. When the brushes are worn, the tool will automatically stop. Replace both carbon brushes simultaneously with genuine Metabo replacement parts. Refer to a qualified service technician for brush replacement if unsure.
  • Cord Inspection: Periodically inspect the power cord for damage. Do not use the tool if the cord is damaged.
  • General Inspection: Check all screws and fasteners for tightness. Ensure the guard and side handle are securely attached.
